Kef fire risk 14/06/22: Low

?? new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, ?? on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.876 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0895 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1416 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9179 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Operose Health: What I saw working undercover at a GP surgery

For six weeks I worked undercover as a receptionist in a GP surgery owned by Operose Health, the UK's biggest GP chain. Most practices in England are privately owned by GP partners, but a rule-change in 2007 allowed bigger companies to buy up partner-led surgeries.

Operose Health has grown rapidly in recent years - it has spent millions buying GP practices. It now runs 70 surgeries with nearly 600,000 patients, making it the biggest GP provider to the NHS.

Across the UK, there is a shortage of GPs and general practice is under unprecedented pressure. Former Operose employees who spoke to Panorama - a dozen doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other staff - said they believed patient safety was being put at risk.

Our investigation found the company let less qualified staff see patients, rather than doctors, without adequate supervision.

Operose denies profit is being prioritised ahead of patient care and says it has a clear process of supervision.

This is the diary of my time working in a busy Operose GP practice in London.

Animal rights group seeks inquiry into big cat shipment to party isle

An animal rights group on Tuesday called for a judicial investigation into a shipment of two lions and a tiger that was allowed to go through customs in northern Greece, destined for the party island of Mykonos.

The call for the inquiry came after state broadcaster ERT reported the discovery by customs officers at the Promachonas border crossing in northern Greece of the three big cats, which were packed into three separate cages in a truck traveling from Slovenia.

Member-states Cyprus, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Malta last month submitted a proposal for a European Union ban on people keeping dangerous or endangered animals as pets.

The Philistines were likely of Greek origin, according to new DNA evidence

The Ancient Egyptians are thought to have been descendants of the Ancient Cretans. The Palestinians have claimed the same. Scientists are searching for the truth, but the evidence is growing towards this theory.

In the case of the Philistines, however, the tribe that was accused more than any other in the Hebrew texts, the investigation provided tangible evidence that they were not only related to the Ancient Greeks, but may have been their descendants.

Anyone still using Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 will find it defaults to Microsoft Edge sometime tomorrow as it is finally retired after extended support. IE 11 will still function on and will continue to receive updates on Windows 8.1, if anyone's still using it, until 8.1 goes EOL on 10/01/23 (a little under seven months from now). MS Edge is the default browser in Windows 11.

Seems access to Koroni beach has been the matter of a court hearing in Argostoli earlier today, locals stating access is essential in the event of fire, also that it's the only beach for tourists in local villages such as Platies, Valerianos and Hionata. Hearing continues tomorrow when a judgement is expected.

Firefox now blocks cross-site tracking by default for all users

Mozilla says that all Firefox users will now be protected by default against cross-site tracking while browsing the Internet.

This is because, starting today, Mozilla is rolling out and enabling its Total Cookie Protection set of privacy improvements for all Firefox users worldwide.

Total Cookie Protection forces all websites to keep their cookies in separate "jars," thus blocking attempts to track you across the web and building browsing profiles.
