The destruction of the real Corfu

Until last month, my house was surrounded on four sides by olive groves. Now, there are olive trees on three sides. On the fourth, a building site. The Greek proverb is: To cut down an olive tree is like killing a man. If so, then last month a mass murderer committed a chainsaw massacre to make way for four holiday apartments.

Heard a strange, and sad, story about a 23 y-o man found wandering the streets in Patras yesterday. Police took him to hospital where he grabbed an officer's gun and shot himself in the head, killing himself. Apparently he had a history of mental illness, police officer charged with improper custody.
