Tears of Chios drive Greece's mastic business

The Greek island of Chios is the only place in the world where the multipurpose mastic resin is cultivated. It's used for refining desserts, drugs and cosmetics — and nowadays also for making beer taste (even) better.

Global warming will cause world’s oceans to change colour within decades, study reveals

The colour of the world’s oceans could soon begin to shift as warming waters trigger massive fluctuations in plankton populations, according to new research.

A study, conducted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, suggests changes in water-dwelling phytoplankton will make some parts of the ocean bluer, and other parts greener, in one of the more unusual effects of climate change.

Seems to be a big disagreement going on between noted local earthquake expert, Akis Tselentis, and the Seismic Risk Assessment Committee. Seems back in late January Mr Tselentis sent an email warning that Greece would experience a powerful earthquake. From what I can make out, the SRAC are saying the warning isn't much use without an idea of when and where.

Greek Oxidative Stress Observatory: Mediterranean diet antioxidants help prevent up to 50 diseases

Doctors, nutritionists, agronomists, food technologists, chemists - more than a hundred scientists and researchers in total - have been involved with the Hellenic Oxidative Stress Observatory over the last six years, waging the "battle" to inform and evaluate agrifood products and identify valuable antioxidants that prevent dozens of diseases.

A few days ago, at a tasting event of Greek and foreign olive oil in Thessaloniki, the Greek Observatory presented the beneficial properties of Greek olive oil that act against premature aging.
