Greece Holds its Breath as Number of Coronavirus Fatalities Rises to Thirteen

As the coronavirus death toll in Italy has reached 4,032, surpassing China’s figures by far, Greece is holding its breath as it counts 13 with a crucial weekend ahead, as authorities fear that the wave of Athenians leaving for the provinces would further spread the virus.

On Saturday, the ministry of education announced that schools might open after Easter (April 19), while previously the closure was intended until April 10.

On Saturday, it was also announced that open food and vegetable markets will be closed until further notice.

Coronavirus: Tourists told not to flock to Cornwall, Scottish Highlands and other destinations to self-isolate
‘A national emergency is not an excuse for a holiday,’ says police chief

Would-be tourists are being urged to keep away from beaches and other holiday destinations in the UK to limit the spread of coronavirus.

It came as reports suggested that ministers’ pleas for Britons to avoid non-essential travel and practise social distancing were being widely ignored, with people heading outdoors to enjoy sunny weather on Saturday.

Cumbria Police said on Saturday that despite government advice, the Lake District and other tourist hotspots in the UK were experiencing an “influx” of visitors.

Fury as vile Scots paedophile moved from Greece to 'cushy' UK jail

A victim of a vile Scots paedophile hit out last night after he was moved back to a “cushy” UK prison from Greece.

Gun-obsessed Douglas Barr, 59, is believed to have been transferred to Yorkshire’s Wakefield Prison from within the much tougher Greek penal system just before Christmas.

He was sentenced to 19 years in 2016 after being found guilty of a catalogue of sexual and violent offences against children on the island of Crete.

The abuse he inflicted on victims included shaving off their eyebrows and locking them in a rubbish-strewn basement.

Barr and his wife Julie lived in a villa on the isle, where they received huge handouts from UK taxpayers.

The pervert had previously moaned about how conditions were so bad in Greek jails that he had to buy his own toilet roll.

Barr, who lived in Leeds but was originally from Dundee, moved to the Crete town of Tavronitis with Julie in 2007.

Incredibly, the twisted couple received benefits of around £4500 a month from the UK taxpayer.

Brexit: Boris Johnson's father 'applies for French passport'

Boris Johnson's father is in the process of applying for a French passport to maintain his ties with Europe after Brexit.

Stanley Johnson, a former MEP who voted Remain in the referendum, has requested to become a French citizen as his mother Irene was born in Versailles.

The move was revealed by the prime minister's sister Rachel, an ardent Europhile, in her new book, Rake's Progress.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale suspend filming amid coronavirus outbreak

Coronation Street and Emmerdale will suspend production from Monday amid the coronavirus outbreak, ITV has announced.

Filming had been continuing on both soaps, but will be suspended from Monday 23 March.

ITV said in a statement the "health and well-being" of the cast and crew is of "paramount importance."

The broadcaster said enough episodes have been recorded to see both soaps through until the early summer.

It follows a similar decision made by EastEnders and other BBC dramas to temporarily halt filming.
