Apparently Poros police station has obtained 'significant' funding for maintenance and upgrading... not so long back there was talk of its closure and transfer to Sami.

Too early to tell but signs the covid crisis is easing on Kef: only two new cases in past week and now only seven beds occupied on the covid ward at Argostoli Hospital, two due for discharge in coming days.

Non-Greeks to get temporary AMKA to be able to get self-test kits

The Digital Governance Ministry submitted an amendment to Parliament on Wednesday so that people who do not have a tax registration number (AFM) or a police ID card can be granted a temporary social security number (AMKA) from Citizens’ Service Centers (KEP) to obtain self-testing kits by registering on the relevant digital platform.

To get an AMKA, interested parties must have an Expatriate Special Identity Card, a birth certificate, a passport and a temporary or permanent residence permit. The amendment will be voted on Thursday.

Mystery tree beast turns out to be croissant

When animal welfare officers received a report of an unusual animal lurking in a tree in the Polish city of Krakow, they were not sure what to expect.

"People aren't opening their windows because they're afraid it will go into their house," the woman reportedly said.

But a visit to the area showed the creature in question was not a bird, or even an reptile - but a croissant.

The Krakow Animal Welfare Society said the incident was genuine.

Climate crisis pushing polar bears to mate with grizzlies, producing hybrid ‘pizzly’ bears

Back in 2006, a strange polar bear was seen in the Northwest Territories of the Canadian Arctic. It had patches of brown on its otherwise white fur and an unusual face shape.

Hunters shot the bear dead and DNA tests confirmed what had been suspected: it was the hybrid offspring of a polar bear and a grizzly bear.

In 2010, another hybrid bear was shot by a hunter in the western Canadian Arctic. Tests revealed this animal was a second-generation cross born of a hybrid mother and grizzly father.

These were the first recorded instances of so-called “pizzly” or “grolar” bears. But over the last decade researchers have noted an increase in sightings of the hybrid creatures, and believe the climate crisis is behind the rise.
