Greece To Welcome British Tourists This Summer

Greece is expecting to welcome British tourists with negative coronavirus tests or vaccination certificates on May 17th, when tourists from the UK will be able to leave the country. According to British government sources, vaccine passports for their citizens are currently in the works.

The UK government has been working hard to make provisions for travel this summer. According to government sources, Britain is working on getting vaccine passports ready for its citizens to use when travelling abroad.

Britain is also expected to announce a “traffic-light” system to categorize holiday destinations for this summer. The announcement is planned for May 7th, less than two weeks before British residents will be allowed to travel.

British ministers are looking into whether some Greek islands can be classified as different traffic-light colors than the mainland in order to allow for lower quarantine requirements for British tourists. These Greek islands have very high vaccination rates as well as low case numbers, making them a particularly safe place to travel this summer.

No reliable indication as to whether Greece, as a whole, will be in the green or amber zone - if the traffic light system is implemented.

Greece To Crack Down On Travel Ahead Of Easter

On Friday, Greece announced more severe restrictions of movement for its residents in order to avoid a spike of coronavirus cases due to Easter celebrations. Traditionally, Athenians and other city dwellers return to their ancestors’ rural villages for Easter.

The government announced that there will be stricter checks on movement until May 10th in order to avoid spreading the coronavirus from more densely populated areas to the rest of the country.

Complete disregard for coronavirus safety rules in Argostoli yesterday evening when a group of young people held a 'corona party' in the main square. Allegedly police observed but didn't intervene.

EU special status for halloumi fails to calm divisions in Cyprus

Just when it seemed halloumi’s greatest battle had been won, the “white gold” of Cyprus is once again causing ructions.

Weeks after being awarded EU protected designation of origin (PDO) status, giving consumers the guarantee of an authentically made Cypriot product, the chewy cheese has managed to elicit anger on both sides of the UN-patrolled “green line” fracturing the divided country.

“With all these rules, the EU is asking us to make an imaginary product,” said Nikos Papakyriakou, who heads the Pancyprian Organisation of Cattle Farmers. “There’s a special formula to halloumi. But they’re demanding that, in addition to cow’s milk, it be made with 51% of sheep and goats milk. How is that possible when there are not enough sheep and goats here?”

Not good advert for Kef especially as the majority on Kef are sticking to the rules.
