A foreign flagged sailing yacht had to be towed off the shallows outside Fiskardo late yesterday,  no obvious injuries or damage but boat being taken to Argostoli for inspection and re-certification.

Greece is still far away from herd immunity

Authorities want to reach herd immunity against the coronavirus as soon as possible, especially in areas popular with tourists, but the number of vaccinated people is far from that threshold, which many experts put at 70% of the population.

In fact, the latest data show that Greece is less than halfway there, with 35.54% of its residents, or 3,873,388 people, either having completed their vaccination or booked an appointment for their second and final shot (or first and only if vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine).

According to the regional governor, the fire broke out in the Eleios-Pronnon area on Saturday afternoon, when a farmer set dry greens on fire.

The Head of the Fire Brigades operating on the island told ERT TV that nobody has been injured or harmed.

Ionian Islands lead in vaccination rates, Central Greece trails

The Ionian Islands, which include Cephalonia, Corfu and Zakynthos, lead the country in vaccination rates against the coronavirus, Secretary General for Primary Care Marios Themistocleous said on Monday.

At the Ionian Island Region 55% of residents have received at least one dose and 47% have completed vaccination for Covid-19. The region is also ahead in appointments set for vaccinations, at 57% of residents.

Covid: Most rules set to end in England, says PM

Face masks will no longer be legally required and distancing rules will be scrapped at the final stage of England's Covid lockdown roadmap, Boris Johnson has confirmed.

The rule of six inside private homes will be removed and work-from-home guidance abolished as 16 months of on-off restrictions on daily life end.

The PM said he expected the final step would go ahead as planned on 19 July.

This will be confirmed on 12 July after a review of the latest data.

On the BBC Johnson said the government will be working with the travel industry to enable double jabbed people to return from amber list countries without having to isolate for ten days. Not clear when this might be.
