Sailboat sinks after fire, foreign passengers swim safely to shore
A Maltese-flagged sailboat that burst into flames earlier in the day sank off Fiskardo beach in Kefalonia on Wednesday after its passengers had abandoned it.
The six foreign nationals on board included three men, two women and a girl, all of whom swam to shore and are in good health.
Authorities placed a floating barrier around it while a Coast Guard boat, volunteer firefighters and two private boats assisted in putting the fire out.
No leaking fuel was reported before the sailboat sank.
