Twenty three new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, two on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8693 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0857 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1504 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9211 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Purr–dah: German town bans cats from going outdoors to protect rare bird

Authorities in the southwest German town of Walldorf have ordered some cat owners to keep their pets indoors until the end of August, to protect a rare bird during its breeding season.

The decree is designed to help save the crested lark, which makes its nest on the ground and is therefore easy prey for feline hunters.

The bird population in Western Europe has declined sharply in recent decades.

Authorities in Walldorf wrote that “among other things, the survival of the species depends on every single chick”.

A songbird, the crested lark is found across Europe, including in Britain. Numbers have been declining across the continent in recent years.

In a Milestone, Greece and the U.K. Have Agreed to Formal Talks About a Possible Return of the Parthenon Marbles
The announcement comes just in time for International Museum Day

Greece may be one step closer to getting the Parthenon marbles back from the United Kingdom, as formal talks are set to begin on the prized artifacts taken by Lord Elgin in 1805.

On the eve of International Museum Day, celebrated on May 18, UNESCO made the surprise announcement that Greece and the United Kingdom had at last agreed to formal talks around a potential return of the ancient sculptures, which were deposited in the British Museum more than 200 years ago.

The potential reunification of the Parthenon marbles was announced by the Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in case of Illicit Appropriation, or ICPRCP, which opened its 23rd session in Paris this week. According to UNESCO, the meeting, offered on April 29 by the U.K., has been accepted by Greece and will be arranged “in due course.”
