Kef fire risk 20/08/22: High

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8692 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0483 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1505 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9539 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Comedy is being ‘nuked’ while reality TV gets away with sex and swearing, says ‘Allo ‘Allo! star

Comedy is being “neutralised”, according to ‘Allo ‘Allo! star Vicki Michelle, while reality TV shows are allowed to get away with rampant sex and swearing.

The actress who played the French waitress Yvette Carte-Blanche in the series, has said that most viewers would welcome new comedies in the style of ‘Allo ‘Allo!, but a minority would take offence.

Michelle has claimed that reality TV programmes continue to depict sex and swearing, while classic comedy is being “neutralised” amid concerns about offensive content.

Reality series like Love Island have prompted viewers to make thousands of complaints to Ofcom, including for bad language - one episode featured 77 uses of the f-word - and for its risque content.

In 2016 the show was investigated by Ofcom for showing two contestants, Emma-Jane Woodham and Terry Walsh, having sex in footage broadcast 10 minutes before the 9pm watershed.

'Italian master' painting valued at £50 sells for £160,000 at Norfolk auction

Antiques enthusiast Ian Honeyman... said he suspected it was a painting by an "Italian master" and could be worth even more than its sale price once it has been restored.

"I would expect that it would turn up in a London auction house like Bonhams where it could go for over £1m," Mr Honeyman told ITV News Anglia.

It is not known who the true artist is suspected to be.

T&S Rabbits farm closure to see over 250 rabbits given to activists

A business that breeds rabbits for meat is closing its remaining farm and handing over 250 rabbits to activists.

Comedian Ricky Gervais is among those to have spoken out against T&S Rabbits, which activists claim has used a legal loophole to breed rabbits for fur.

The Fur Farming (Prohibition) Act 2000 states it is an offence to keep animals in England solely or primarily for slaughter for the value of their fur.

However, it is legal to breed rabbits for meat then sell the fur as a by-product.

Products formerly advertised on the T&S Rabbits website included £275 rabbit fur handbags, £200 rabbit fur scarves, £160 rabbit fur cushions, rabbit fur hats from £60 to £130, and £600 rabbit fur body warmers.

Flicking through the TV channels I caught sight of a very young Dennis Waterman and Frazer Hines in a 1963 Saturday morning kids' film, Go Kart Go, during which the kids play hopscotch. Got me wondering whether kids still play it as I've not seen paving flags chalked with numbered squares for years. Bit of googling found me a 2011 article on metro.co.uk: Children ‘don’t know how to play hopscotch anymore’ which mentions games many of us might've played but kids don't seem to any more: Knock Down Ginger, British Bulldog and Hopscotch. Probably none too safe for kids to play out now. No mention of my favourite... kiss chase!

Greece's exit from enhanced EU scrutiny ends 12 years of pain, prime minister says

Greece's exit on Saturday from the European Union's so-called enhanced surveillance framework for its economy ends 12 years of pain and allows the country greater freedom in policy making, its prime minister said.

Greece's economic performance and policies have been closely monitored under the framework since 2018 to ensure it implemented reforms promised under three international bailouts - totalling more than 260 billion euros ($261 billion) - from the European Union and the IMF between 2010 and 2015.

Energy price cap could pass £6,000 for first time in new forecast

Gas and electricity prices could soar by more than threefold from an already record level, according to a worrying new forecast.

Experts have warned energy prices could spike at as much as £6,000 per year for the average household from next April.

The cost-of-living crisis is only set to get worse between now and next summer, as consultancy Auxilione predicted that the price cap on bills will gradually rise by more than £4,000 in the next eight months.

They said that the cap is expected to reach £3,576 in October, rising to £4,799 in January, and finally hitting £6,089 in April.
