Kef fire risk 20/09/22: Medium

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.9042 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0290 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1060 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9718 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:

Greeks fume over interviews with 'crown prince' Pavlos despite 50 years of republic

BRITISH broadcasters have been criticised for interviewing the son of Greece’s deposed former king and using his now defunct titles – despite the country being a republic for nearly 50 years.

Both Channel 4 News and BBC World News interviewed Pavlos, the former crown prince of Greece, ahead of the Queen’s funeral service on Monday.

He is the third cousin twice removed of the late monarch and his royal titles are legally meaningless in the Hellenic Republic, which removed its last king, Pavlos’s father, by a referendum in 1974.

ARK (Animal Rescue Kefalonia) need building materials to winter-proof the doggie pens and make them more comfy for the rescue animals. Gravel and pallets especially useful, also tiles, sheet metal, also equipment such as shovels, hoes and rakes. Food and blankets (for the animals) always welcome: animalrescuekefalonia.com

Man sets fire on brother’s house and store, dies in the blaze

A 71-year-old man on the island of Lesvos who set fire to the house and store of his brother has died in the blaze, police said on Monday.

The man barged into his brother’s house at 4 a.m. on Monday and set fire to his garage, destroying his car. He then drove off to the village of Polychnitos in his pick up truck where his brother owns a clothes store and smashed though the window display. The crash ignited the gas cylinders loaded at the back of his vehicle causing an explosion which killed the 71-year-old and burned down the shop, according to local media.

UK considers joining new European nations club

The UK is weighing up whether to attend a new European political "club of nations" next month.

The first meeting of the "European Political Community" is due to be held in Prague in early October.

Downing Street wants to see more detail on the summit before Prime Minister Liz Truss commits to attending it and no final decision has been made.

The European Political Community is an idea championed by the French President Emmanuel Macron.

He proposed it, in May, as a "new space" for co-operation.

Mr Macron suggested the group could discuss security, energy and transport as well as the movement of people, particularly the young.

Great provided the UK doesn't end up footing the bill for it.
