Kef fire risk 28/10/22: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8920 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0324 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1211 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9686 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

BLUE MURDER Inside last days of Truss’ doomed spell as PM with sacking of Kwasi & warning UK risked becoming ‘Third World’ country

DOOMSDAY warnings of an economic downturn that would take 20 years to recover from convinced Liz Truss to ditch her closest pal Kwasi Kwarteng and blow up her Government.

We can reveal for the first time the true scale of the financial horror the short-lived Prime Minister and her disastrous mini Budget risked.

Panic-stricken Treasury chiefs told the PM the UK risked plunging to the status of a “Third World country” unable to sell its debt on global bond markets, with the City “reduced to rubble”.

Her dream of slashing taxes was cooked up with her Chancellor in secret — and many of her aides reacted in shock when they were told of its scale just hours before it was unleashed on the country last month.

But abandoning it meant a weeping Truss had to sack her closest pal of more than a decade, the man with whom she had slowly but determinedly risen the ranks and seized power.

While friends of both deny constant Westminster rumours they were anything more than political bedfellows, the scale of the betrayal left Truss in tears as she conceded her days in power were doomed.

That's from a new biography of Liz Truss. I'm sure it'll be a best seller. Or maybe not.

Truss could have faced an inquiry like the on-going one into Johnson lying to Parliament, according to the Independent

Cambridge orchid in bloom smells like rotting cabbage

Visitors to a university garden can treat their nostrils to the heady scent of "rotting cabbages or decomposing dead rats" as a "rare" orchid blooms.

Young Student Parades Alone on OXI Day on Remote Greek Island

A ten-year-old Greek student who lives on a small Ionian island had the privilege of parading all alone on OXI day. It sounds like an oddity, but it is a fairly usual situation in remote island student parades every year in Greece on the celebration of the great national day.

The boy, named Tasos, is the only student in Mathraki’s primary school.

Looks as though the video is from last year but these things tend to be pretty much the same every year. Also looks as though the entire population of Mathraki has ventured out to watch, plus friends and relations  :)

I thought that wasn't such a bad idea, provided there wasn't any extra cost to GP's surgeries (i.e. admin costs) and provided there were exceptions for certain genuine circumstances.

Here's a brief video of a guy heading for the emergency unit: Beware opening doors

Used Ford Fiestas now worth more than new ones

The average price of a used Ford Fiesta has soared as production of Britain’s favourite car comes to an end.

Second-hand Fiestas less than a year old are changing hands for £23,600 - around £400 more than a new version of the same car - because of long waiting lists and a severe shortage of supply, according to data from Auto Trader.

A typical used Fiesta now costs £3,110 more than before pandemic disruption to car making sent prices soaring.
