Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8868 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0205 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1276 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9799 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Tragedy on Crete over night: around midnight a huge boulder slipped down a mountain at Agia Fotia, Ierapetra...

Concerns about landslides in other parts of Greece, Myrtos,  Navagio (Shipwreck Beach) on Zakynthos and
Porto Katsiki, Lefkas among them. Poros  gorge was netted a few years back but rocks are building up on the netting, hopefully they'll be cleared away sometime.

Municipality of Argostoli had Zebra crossings painted on various roads in the capital overnight, some concerns over whether drivers will respect them / they'll see out the winter weather.

Bank of England expects UK to fall into longest ever recession

The Bank of England has warned the UK is in its longest recession since records began, as it raised interest rates by the most in 33 years.

In its outlook for the UK economy, it said the country would face a "very challenging" two-year slump.

It also warned the unemployment rate will nearly double.

Bounty bars removed from Celebrations tubs in trial

Bounty hunters may have their work cut out this Christmas, after chocolate manufacturer Mars Wrigley said it would be eliminating the sweet from some of its tubs.

The coconut-flavoured treat may be marketed as a slice of paradise, but nearly 40% of us hate them, Mars says.

So a limited run of "No Bounty" tubs will go on sale at 40 Tesco stores in the run-up to Christmas.

It comes after the brand let shoppers return unwanted Bounties last year.

Portuguese man o’war: Increase in sightings of jellyfish-like creature along Britain's coastline

There has been an increase in sightings of a jellyfish-like creature which can cause whip-like wounds from its stings along Britain's coastline.

Members of the public reported a total of 1,315 jellyfish sightings to the Marine Conservation Society for its annual survey of marine wildlife, including a 2% increase in sightings of the Portuguese man o'war.

The tentacles of the man o’war are covered in venom-filled capsules which are used to paralyse and kill fish and other small creatures.

But while excruciatingly painful for humans, a man o'war sting is not usually deadly.

Rishi Sunak surprises commuters by selling poppies at central London Tube station
Prime Minister held tray full of poppies and talked to members of the public during the brief appearance to which no media was invited
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/11/03/rishi-sunak-surprises-commuters-selling-poppies-central-london/

IF I was cynical I'd be thinking it was a cunning publicity stunt, not inviting the media might suggest it wasn't but these days smart phones and the internet pretty much guarantee publicity. Well done to Rishi, anyway.
