Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8985 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0046 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1130 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9954 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Nurses set to hold biggest-ever strike

The biggest ever strike by nurses looks set to go ahead.

The Royal College of Nursing is due to unveil the results of its ballot, which ended last week, in the next few days.

The final results are being counted but RCN sources say a large majority of nurses have voted in favour of action in a dispute over pay.

The RCN had recommended to its 300,000 members that they walk out. If strikes take place, they would affect non-urgent but not emergency care.

The vote has involved a series of individual workplace-based ballots across the country and it is possible some hospitals and services will not be involved if nurses do not back action at a local level.

Starting salaries for nurses in England are currently just above £27,000, rising to nearly £55,000 for the most senior nurses.

The RCN said the average pay for a full-time established nurse was just above £32,000 last year - similar to average pay across the economy.

Patients wait two and a half days for an ambulance as NHS crisis deepens
50,000 extra deaths from heart attacks and strokes since the start of the pandemic while 999 calls take up to 52 minutes to be answered

Patients are waiting up to two and a half days for an ambulance amid a mounting NHS crisis, an investigation reveals.

The data show delays of more than 24 hours for conditions such as heart attack and strokes, with still longer waits for other cases.

It follows research showing more than 50,000 extra deaths from heart attacks and strokes since the start of the pandemic.

Experts said many of the fatalities were caused by “unacceptable” delays getting an ambulance.

Most Britons think country has lost control of its border since Brexit: poll
Only 7% of Opinium respondents believe government is in control of situation in the English Channel

The vast majority of the public believe that Britain has not regained control of its borders since Brexit, according to a new Observer poll that suggests that most do not think leaving the EU has improved the UK’s ability to manage immigration.

According to the latest Opinium poll, 73% think the UK has not been in control of its borders since Brexit. Only 12% think Britain has been in control. Meanwhile, only 9% of the public believe Brexit has made Britain’s ability to manage its borders better, while 45% think it has made it worse.

Those who backed Brexit are also taking a dim view. Only 7% of leave voters think the UK is in control of its borders since Brexit, while 85% think it is not.

Boris Johnson ‘quit PM race over risk to £10m earnings’, sources say

Boris Johnson would have forfeited earnings of at least £10m a year from speeches and sales of his memoirs if he had fought a leadership battle against Rishi Sunak and lost, according to informed sources in the entertainment industry, who believe financial considerations played a part in his decision to pull out.

Meanwhile Matt Hancock, the former health secretary, was told yesterday he could earn around £1m a year having signed up for I’m a Celebrity.

Showbiz guru Jonathan Shalit, the CEO of the InterTalent Rights Group...  said Hancock had an earning potential of £1m a year “on average” if his stint in the jungle went well.

Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly and Anton Du Beke criticised by 'poppy police' after mistake
Fans have been vocal about the way that Strictly stars are wearing their poppies tonight.
https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/tv/strictly-come-dancings-tess-daly-25445226

Not something I watch but apparently the 'poppy police' have criticised some of the presenters for not wearing their poppy with the leaf in the eleven o'clock position. So here's the authoritative answer:

Quote
We often hear people debating the 'correct' way to wear a poppy, but the truth is, unless you're currently serving, there is no 'correct' way.

It’s a matter of personal choice whether someone chooses to wear a poppy and how they choose to wear it.
