Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9081 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1213 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1012 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8918 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

At a marathon, sometimes acrimonious, sitting last night the EU Committee on Regional Development, in the early hours of this morning, approved a proposal from the Ionian Islands Regional Council to fund a feasibility study into a tunnel linking Antipata, near Fiskardo, with Vasiliki on neighbouring Levkas.

Supporters of the proposal argued that, along with the already proposed Levkas-mainland tunnel, it will reduce journey times to destinations in Greece and mainland Europe by up to four hours compared to current ferry crossing times via Patras or Kyllini, thus increasing tourism volume and reducing costs in the shops.

Environmentalists and ferry companies objected citing the cost, danger of landslides above Myrtos and the effect of increased trafic on the Fiskardo-Argostoli road when the Argostoli-Poros ferry port road is being improved at enormous expense. They also claim the tunnel will not be toll-free.

If constructed it would be possible to drive from Kefalonia to the UK, via Preveza, without a ferry crossing. However, this may not be the case as it was revealed that secret talks with leading Brexiteers have taken place in London regarding dismantling the Channel Tunnel section by section and selling it to the Greek government, albeit at a substantial loss on the original construction costs.

Two ferries docked after colliding in Kyllini port

Two ferries were tied up at the port of Kyllini, western Peloponnese, on Saturday, after one of them came into contact with the other while docking, local port authorities said. No injuries were reported.

The incident took place at 7 a.m., when the passenger ferry Kefalonia, arriving from the Ionian island with the same name, scratched the ferry Fior Di Levante which was anchored at the port. Kefalonia suffered a crack on the side of the ship.

The ferry managed to dock safely at Kyllini and the 130 passengers and 39 crew members disembarked, all of whom are in good health. It is not known what caused the accident.

Both ferries, which belong to the company Levante Ferries, must now undergo an inspection before being allowed to return to service.

Cumberland and Westmorland return 49 years after ‘travesty’ of renaming counties
Campaigners hail the abolition of Cumbria county council saying it is important to ‘recognise our roots and heritage’ across the UK

The county council of Cumbria - created as part of Edward Heath’s much-criticised local government reorganisation of 1974 - was on Friday night abolished, along with its six districts.

From Saturday, Cumbria is replaced by two unitary authorities - Cumberland, and Westmorland and Furness.
