“Suspicious login” scams
« on: Thursday, 22 December, 2022 @ 04:29:17 »
A warning from Sophos about “Suspicious login” scams. If you log-in to a website, especially your email provider and quite possibly social media sites, from a device or location you don't normally use you're likely to get an email querying whether it was you.

The wording is likely to be similar to this:

If you did this you can safely ignore this email. If you didn't do this you can secure your account here.

So, as you didn't just try to log in to Gmail using a Linux PC in Abu Dhabi, and probably not from Aberdovey, you might be tempted to click on the link to secure your account.

If you do it'll take you to an authentic looking web page where the scammers request your name, password and other personal details to "prove who you are".

Advice from Sophos: delete the email and use a saved link or google search to navigate to the website to check your account / change your password. There's more info at nakedsecurity.sophos.com
