On Dec. 16 the Bank of Greece launched its second circulating commemorative €2 coin of 2016, this example marking the 120th birth anniversary of Dimitri Mitropoulos, a Greek conductor, pianist, and composer active in the 20th century.
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Mitropoulos against the background of musical notes. Inscribed along the inner edge at left is Greek wording translating to “120 years of the birth of Dimitri Mitropoulos” and “Hellenic Republic.” At upper left appears the year of issue, 2016, and a palmette (the Mint mark of the Greek Mint). Visible at lower right is the monogram of the artist, George Stamatopoulos.
The reverse carries the common European map design.
The 12 stars of the European flag appear on both sides of the €2 coin.

Zakynthos man remanded over uncle’s murder
A 43-year-old man from the Ionian island of Zakynthos is expected to be transferred to the Greek capital’s high-security Korydallos Prison this week after answering to murder charges on Tuesday.
The man was remanded in pretrial custody after his testimony to a prosecutor, in which he denied bludgeoning his 63-year-old uncle to death on December 30.

Higher tax burden for Greeks in 2017
In 2017, Greeks face higher consumption taxes, income taxes, and lower pensions. The changes are meant to increase Greece's primary budget surplus, and so leave more money for debt servicing.
The government has put in place a long list of consumption tax and fee increases for the start of the new year. Among them: Higher value-added taxes, and higher duties on tobacco products, coffee, and automotive fuels - three cents per litre on unleaded petrol, eight cents on diesel, and ten cents on LP gas (liquid petroleum gas).
There will also be a five percent surcharge on broadband, subscription TV, and landline telephone bills.

Tax debts to Greek state rise to more than 94 bln euros
More than half of the country’s taxpayers owe money to the cash-strapped Greek state, according to the Finance Ministry’s General Secretariat of Public Revenues.
Fresh data show that 4.3 million taxpayers have accrued debts in excess of 94 billion euros, prompting authorities to take collection measures (seizures of deposits and assets) against 826,211 taxpayers.

Ransomware on smart TVs is going to be a big problem
In November 2015, Symantec researchers conducted a test and installed ransomware on a smart TV. Even if the researcher who conducted the test was an expert on Android malware and was a very skilled professional, he found it very difficult to remove the malware from the infected TV, a task he said would be extremely difficult and nearly impossible for a non-technical user.
The same test was repeated three months later by researchers from Trend Micro, who arrived at the same conclusion.
Malware targeting smart TVs is not that common, but when it hits it's usually extremely difficult to deal with. For example, in January 2016, a user had a hard time removing a basic browser scareware (tech support scam). The infected TV was also an LG TV.
In June 2016, Trend Micro reported that smart TVs were regularly targeted by ransomware.
