Seventy one new cases cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1567
1 USD = € 0.8566

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the Post Office (https://www.postoffice.co.uk/travel-money).
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Elderly blind dog heartlessly thrown out on the streets ‘has never felt love’
Despite her traumatic past, staff at the animal shelter in Greece have fallen in love with 13-year-old Ruby’s affectionate nature

An elderly blind dog who was heartlessly abandoned to fend for herself on the streets is now looking for a home to spend what time she has left being loved and cared for.

Ruby, 13, was rescued by a good Samaritan after they found her “frightened and dirty” while wandering the streets in Lamia, Greece, where she narrowly avoided being hit by a car.

She was brought to an animal shelter in the Greek city, where staff quickly fell in love with her affectionate nature.

Liz Truss ‘insisted’ on £1,400 taxpayer-funded lunch at private club owned by Tory donor
Foreign secretary overruled advice to dine somewhere more suitable – and ‘refused to consider anywhere else’

Leaked correspondence has revealed the foreign secretary “refused to consider anywhere else” and requested taxpayers’ cash for a £3,000 event with Joe Biden’s trade representative.

The venue agreed to reduce the bill to £1,400, but on condition of immediate payment – which meant civil servants had to use an emergency process to pay up straight away.

A receipt showed Ms Truss and her companions enjoyed two bottles of dry gin, three £153 bottles of Pazo Barrantes Albarino, a Spanish white wine, and two bottles of the French red Coudoulet de Beaucastel, at £130 a bottle.

Bin collections cancelled across the UK as Government plans for Covid absences in public sector to rise by a quarter
Shortage of lateral flow devices contributing to widespread disruption as hospital trust declares 'extreme and unprecedented' staff absences

Bin collections have been cancelled across the country amid staff shortages, as the Government prepares for up to a quarter of public sector workers to be absent due to Covid.

Councils in Manchester, Essex, Somerset and Buckinghamshire have scaled back or suspended waste collections due to staff being off sick with Covid-19 or in isolation.

Chelmsford City Council said 23 members of staff are currently absent and have cancelled three days’ worth of food waste collections, while 1,000 recycling bins were not collected in North Somerset.

It comes after the Government asked public sector leaders to plan for a worst-case scenario of up to a quarter of staff being absent as coronavirus continues to sweep across the country.
