Mayor put bounty on heads of stray dog poisoners

A local authority in northeastern Greece has offered a 1,000-euro reward for information regarding the poisoning of stray dogs in the Municipality of Doxato near the city of Drama.

Doxato Mayor Dimitris Dalakakis said he would personally provide the money for the bounty. He also called on fellow municipal chiefs to club together to build a shelter for abandoned pets.

Nearly 200 Bangladeshi immigrants working in strawberry production in the fields of the Peloponnesian town of Manolada, Greece, demanded to receive six months wages they were owed in April 17, 2013. Instead of receiving their backpay they were shot at, with 28 people injured. There was a great deal of media attention concerning the blood-dripped strawberries.

Two years later, the Manolada case has gone through the Greek court system with the migrant workers denied both witness protection and financial compensation. To add insult to injury, they are now expected to pay legal fees related to the case.

There is more cocaine in London's sewer system than any other European city, study shows

New research shows that 737mg of cocaine was flushed away in the capital per 1,000 people each day last year.

Following closely behind was Amsterdam, where 716mg per 1,000 people of cocaine was found in sewers, with the Belgian city of Antwerp placing third with 632mg.

When other drugs were considered, Amsterdam came top in Europe for the amount of cannabis found in sewage water, while London had the fourth highest daily concentration of ecstasy.

Heard the Kefalonia Harbour Master has decided that heavy vehicles departing the ferry in Poros will have to wait fifteen minutes in the harbour area to allow cars to get on the road first. Should help eliminate the long standing problem of cars being stuck behind slow moving vehicles (and overtaking dangerously!)

A powerful novel, set on the island of Crete during the Second World War, won an author a prestigious book award.

Gareth F Williams, originally from Porthmadog, was the winner of the main Welsh-language Wales Book of the Year Award for his novel Awst yn Anogia.

Gareth said: “I had been on holiday to Cephalonia, another Greek island, and afterwards started reading about the island and in one article it mentioned what had happened in Anogia on Crete.

“I immediately thought there was material for a strong story here.”

Before we crow too much or start "offering" to host the next two world cups perhaps we should make sure the English FA is squeaky clean.  Britain is already involved in the dodgy stuff via UK Overseas Territory Cayman Islands.
