Thirteen new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1324
1 USD = € 0.8584

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Woman admits abusing pet marmoset she offered cocaine and flushed toilet on

A woman has pleaded guilty to abusing her pet marmoset, including offering cocaine to the primate and attempting to flush it down the toilet.

A court heard how Vicki Holland was aggressive towards the primate, which is native to tropical forests in Central and South America. The monkey’s treatment was shown to the RSPCA after videos were discovered on Holland’s phone by Gwent police after a drug raid at her home.

...video showed the mother-of-four laughing as she attempted to flush the marmoset down the toilet as it clung to the rim.

Holland was banned from keeping all animals for life after pleading guilty to three Animal Welfare Act offences and was given a 12-week jail term, suspended for 12 months. She must also pay £420 in costs and a £128 victim surcharge.

Hunt master fined after out-of-control dogs mauled pet cat to death
‘I’m heartbroken, my children are not sleeping at night and they are terrified of it happening to another of our pets,’ says owner

A hunt master has been fined £480 for being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control pack of dogs that mauled a pet cat to death in a case that prompted a campaign for the law to be tightened.

Western Hunt master John Sampson was convicted after his son threw the animal’s dead body over a fence on a quiet housing estate in Penzance, Cornwall.

Two cases where the sentences were way too lenient.

No ho ho: Italian church apologises over bishop’s claim about Santa Claus

A Roman Catholic diocese in Sicily has publicly apologised to outraged parents after its bishop told a group of children that Santa Claus doesn’t exist.

Bishop Antonio Stagliano didn’t mean the comments, and was trying to underline the true meaning of Christmas and the story of Saint Nicholas, a bishop who gave gifts to the poor and was persecuted by a Roman emperor, said the Rev Alessandro Paolino, the communications director for the diocese of Noto.

I reckon he was trying to distinguish between St. Nicholas, who Santa Clause is derived from, and the commercialisation of Christmas, e.g. using Santa to sell sugary drinks harmful to health:

Coca-Cola did not create the legend of Santa Claus. But Coca-Cola advertising did play a big role in shaping the jolly character we know today.

Treasury defends ‘impromptu’ drinks party after Sunak’s autumn budget
Staff celebrated chancellor’s autumn spending review with wine and beer during lockdown, while pubs and bars were shuttered

The Treasury has been forced to defend officials holding an “impromptu” drinks party to celebrate Rishi Sunak’s autumn spending review during lockdown.

A spokesperson insisted it was a “small number” of staff who celebrated around their desks, despite reports putting the number closer to two dozen civil servants at the event.
