Seventy new cases of coronavirus on Kefalonia confirmed yesterday by EODY, three on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1539
1 USD = € 0.8550

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Sounds like Kef is to get a five star hotel as the Ministry of Development and Investment has given approval to the investment plan presented by the lead development company. No clues as to where it will be built, maybe near Fiskardo?

Cost of PCR tests to be capped from January 6

The cost of PCR molecular tests for Covid-19 at private laboratories and clinics will be capped at 47 euros from Thursday, following a Development Ministry decision on Tuesday.

The ministry decision stipulates the maximum service charge (sample analysis, etc.), including the required reagents and consumables, will be 35 euros and the maximum charge for sampling in private diagnostic laboratories and private clinics, will be 12 euros.

The cap does not apply to tests where the sample is taken outside the laboratory or clinic.

‘Quite incredible’: some of world’s rarest camellias discovered in Yorkshire
Shrubs dating from 1792 found during renovation of stately home Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham

Horticultural experts have compared it to finding a wondrous and unknown library of rare first editions, said the head gardener of Wentworth Woodhouse, Scott Jamieson, recalling the discovery of camellias believed to be some of the oldest and rarest in the western world.

The important shrubs have been identified in a dilapidated glass and brick building on the estate of Wentworth Woodhouse, a spectacular Georgian palace near Rotherham in South Yorkshire, which is the subject of one of the UK’s biggest heritage restoration projects.

Not surprised.A wonderful place to visit. My Great Grandmother was born in a cottage on the Estate as my Great Great Grandfather was a coachman to the Earl at the time. At one time it was nearly impossible to have a tour round the house only with a special guest ticket  which was only issued at certain times. Since it has now been taken into the hands of  a trust i think also connections to the National Trust and obtained funds to renovate it Tours round are quite frequent. The house and grounds are huge and the garden centre and cafe well worth a trip.A good book to read with regard to Wentworth Woodhouse's history is Black Diamonds by Catherine Bailey. The house and family also have a connection to the Devonshires of Chatsworth.Good read !!
