Forty eight new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, six on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1609
1 USD = € 0.8556

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

In Greece, a String of Killings Pushes Domestic Abuse Into the Spotlight

One woman was suffocated, her body found next to her baby. Another was pushed off a cliff. Yet another was stabbed 23 times.

The highly publicized and horrific killings, along with a steep rise in domestic violence cases in Greece in the past year, have pushed partner-on-partner violence into the spotlight in a country where such abuse has long been whispered about but rarely publicly discussed.

Carrie Johnson ‘dragged into Westminster party inquiry over flat visits’

Carrie Johnson has become embroiled in the partygate scandal over allegations that two of her friends visited the flat she shares with her husband Boris, according to reports.

The official inquiry into allegations of parties in Westminster has been widened to include socialising in the prime minister’s own flat.

Sue Gray, the senior civil servant leading the investigation, has reportedly received evidence that Henry Newman and Josh Grimstone entered the property on several occasions.

According to the Sunday Times, the pair claim to have visited the flat for work-related reasons.

However, both were based in the Cabinet Office rather than No10 at the time.

A government source confirmed to the paper that the “scope of the inquiry has broadened” to include the alleged visits by Newman and Grimstone.

However, a Whitehall source said: “Why are two spads [special advisers] from the Cabinet Office going to the PM’s flat to have work meetings with the prime minister without any officials present? It doesn’t pass the sniff test."

Number 10 police questioned by Sue Gray over Downing Street parties

Police officers who guard Downing Street have been interviewed by Sue Gray for the “partygate” investigation, The Telegraph can disclose.

Members of the Metropolitan Police’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command who were on duty when a string of lockdown-breaking gatherings are alleged to have taken place have provided detailed testimonies about what they witnessed.

The statements, described by one source as “extremely damning”, are expected to form a key part of Ms Gray’s report, which is due to be published within days.

I find it a bit difficult to believe the police didn't know about parties at No 10 at the time they occurred. So why didn't they apply the laws they enforced on others?

Animal charity chairman quits following welfare row over her 18 pet cats
Linda Upson, who has chaired the board of Cats Protection since 2017, keeps 18 cats in her three-bedroom house

Linda Upson, who has chaired the board of Cats Protection since 2017, said she had decided to step down to avoid the scandal, revealed by the Telegraph last week, detracting from the charity’s “vital work”.

Her decision to keep 18 cats in a three-bedroom house had raised concerns that one of the most senior figures at the charity was breaching official guidelines on welfare.

Cat owners are advised by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to ensure the animals have “enough space so that they can get away from one another”.

Boris Johnson had birthday bash during lockdown, ITV News understands

ITV News understands Boris Johnson had a birthday party during the first lockdown in 2020 despite the rules forbidding social gatherings indoors at the time.

It's alleged that the prime minister's wife, Carrie Johnson, helped organise a surprise get-together for him on the afternoon of 19 June just after 2pm.

Up to 30 people are said to have attended the event in the Cabinet Room after Boris Johnson returned from an official visit to a school in Hertfordshire.

ITV News understands that the interior designer, Lulu Lytle - who was not a member of No 10 staff - also attended the gathering. At the time Ms Lytle was renovating Boris Johnson’s flat in Downing Street, which has been the subject of a separate controversy.

ITV News understands those present at the afternoon party included the prime minister’s principal private secretary, Martin Reynolds, who had previously invited over 100 staff to a drinks party on 20 May 2020.

The week before his birthday party, Boris Johnson had asked the rest of the country to stick to the guidance in a press conference from Downing Street.  “I urge everyone to continue to show restraint and respect the rules which are designed to keep us all safe. It’s only because of the restraint that everyone, you all have shown so far, that we are able to move gradually out of this lockdown”, he said on 10 June 2020.

He added: "It is emphatically not designed for people who don't qualify to start meeting inside other people's homes - that remains against the law."

Possible tragedy in Poros: sometime after six p.m. this evening a car sped off the old breakwater and disappeared under the surface. A boat reached the scene quickly but was unable to locate the car. A diver went in around 21:30 but was also unable to locate the vehicle, probably due to strong waves washing the car along the coast. Another attempt scheduled for tomorrow morning. Unclear how many people in vehicle, if any, as no missing persons reported as yet.
