Seventy new cases of coronavirus recorded on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, two on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1646
1 USD = € 0.8699

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons customers have been told not eat certain products because the Food Standards Agency (FSA) says they're not safe.

Good. Let's see more of the same punishments.

What chance is there that any of these 30,000 euro fines will ever be paid?

Man dumps seven dogs on road before driving away

Shocking footage captures the moment a man abandons seven dogs - believed to have been bred on a puppy farm - by unloading his van and dumping them in the middle of a road.

The RSPCA have launched a hunt for the driver, who was seen callously discarding the animals on a street in Coventry last month.

He pulls onto the pavement and opens the back door of his vehicle, grabbing the puppies and pushing them onto the road before slamming the doors shut and driving off.

All seven dogs are being cared for by the RSPCA.

Boris Johnson discusses his ‘brilliant strategy for confusing media’ in resurfaced clip

A clip has resurfaced of Boris Johnson discussing his “brilliant strategy” for dealing with the media during an appearance on BBC’s Booktalk in 2006.

The prime minister is facing calls to resign after a number of scandals but suggested 16 years ago that making “so many gaffes” was part of his master plan.

“I’ve got a brilliant new strategy which is to make so many gaffes, that no one knows what to concentrate on,” Mr Johnson said.

“You pepper the media with so many gaffes that they are confused.”

Video clip in link. Hm, no doubt BoJo has seriously f*cked up over and over again but while he, his Cabinet ministers and the Metropolitan Police contradict themselves the media and the public are clearly focused and in no doubt: the man is a serial liar doing the Conservative Party terminal damage.

Met officer would be "horrified" by force party probe handling

Fran Hall, the bereaved wife of a Metropolitan Police officer who died of Covid-19, said he would be “horrified” at how the force seems to be “complicit in covering up” the behaviour of politicians involved in the No 10 party probe.

Ms Hall is the spokeswoman for the Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice campaign group. She added that the scandal was “reopening the wounds we are trying to live with”.

A censored version of Sue Gray’s report into alleged lockdown-breaching parties at No 10 is to be presented to Boris Johnson “shortly”.

Superyacht sales surge prompts fresh calls for curbs on their emissions
Campaigners say a superyacht can produce 1,500 times more carbon than a typical family car, and the polluters should pay

The rising fortunes of the world’s billionaires during the pandemic helped fuel a record £5.3bn in superyacht sales last year, prompting calls for new curbs on their emissions.

New figures reveal that 887 superyachts were sold in 2021, an increase of more than 75% compared with the previous year. Yachting brokers say some of the demand has been from wealthy clients seeking a secure refuge from the pandemic.

A superyacht is typically defined as a privately owned vessel 78 feet (24 metres) or more in length. According to industry data, there are more than 9,300 on the seas worth a total in excess of £50bn.

Fresh revelations about Jennifer Arcuri affair threaten to damage Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson is facing damaging new revelations about his relationship with the US businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri after hundreds of page of notes and documents were handed to officials at the Greater London Authority (GLA) overseeing two separate investigations into their affair.

Last month the GLA oversight committee summonsed and received a significant number of documents – including emails to and from Arcuri – from a London tourism and promotional agency as part of an inquiry into whether Johnson abused his position as London mayor to “benefit and reward” the American businesswoman.

Arcuri was given access to foreign trade missions led by the future prime minister and sponsorship for her events business, raising questions about conflicts of interest.

Arcuri is also said to be cooperating fully with a separate investigation by the GLA’s ethics watchdog that raises the prospect of Johnson facing an investigation for a potential criminal offence of misconduct in public office.

The investigation is focused on “the payment of sponsorship monies and the access afforded to those who participated in mayoral trade missions”.

Arcuri received £126,000 of public money in the form of grants for her technology business and event sponsorship and received access to three foreign trade missions led by Johnson.

Jennifer Arcuri

When Johnson was mayor of London, he arranged £126,000 of taxpayer money in grants for the American tech entrepreneur, Jennifer Arcuri. He also arranged for her to accompany him on overseas trips. But Arcuri has since released a diary claiming the pair had a four-year affair. She alleges that he offered at the time: “How can I be the thrust – the throttle – your mere footstep as you make your career? Tell me: how I can help you? [sic]” Johnson has never declared their relationship in any register of interests, as would be required. Nor has he explicitly denied the affair took place, although he has repeatedly said he did nothing wrong.
