One hundred and four new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, one on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8649 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.1320 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1562 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8834 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Lancashire woman who buried puppy alive handed tougher sentence after losing appeal

A woman who buried her Pomeranian puppy alive has been handed a lifetime ban on keeping all animals after she lost her appeal against her conviction and was given a tougher sentence.

Inga Ozola, 45, of Seven Stars Road, Leyland, Preston, was found guilty of two animal welfare charges when she appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced in September.

The terrified puppy had been found buried alive in a black bin bag with two broken legs and nerve damage.

Another one who deserves a long stretch. Preferably at the end of a rope.

In Greece, Russia sympathies die hard despite Ukraine war

When Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took the floor in a parliament debate on Ukraine this month, there was no doubt which side his government was taking in the conflict.

"There can be no equal distances. You are either with peace and international law, or against them," he told lawmakers, after announcing a shipment of medicine and lethal aid to Ukraine.

"We were always on the right side of history, and we are doing the same now," the PM said.

But for many Greeks, after centuries of existential, religious and cultural ties with Russia, the choice is not as evident.

Academics want Putin’s titles stripped

A group of academics are demanding that honorary degrees awarded by Greek universities to Russian President Vladimir Putin be rescinded in response to his invasion of Ukraine.

In a petition for which signatures are still being gathered, the academics say that their demand is the least they can do, as citizens of Greece and Europe, to show solidarity for the plight of the Ukrainian people.

Otters in Singapore cross road with police escort

Traffic outside of Singapore's presidential palace was disrupted after a romp of otters decided to try and make their way across the road.

Thankfully, police on guard outside the palace were able to stop traffic to help the otters get across.

Singapore's otter population is on the rise after ant-pollution and reforestation teams helped them return to the area.

The comeback is not without its side effects, with incidents of otters attacking humans being reported and expensive koi fish eaten from ponds.
