Twenty seven new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, five on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8578 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.1151 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1658 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8968 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Dan Steven, aka Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey, was invited on to The One Show to talk about Gaslit, a new film with a different perspective on the Watergate scandal, starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn:

Greece says no more weapons for Ukraine

Athens is not planning to send more military equipment to Ukraine, Greek Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos said on Wednesday.

He said Greece’s defence of its own territory should not be weakened, particularly on islands, by sending more weapons.

“The defence equipment we sent to Ukraine came from our stocks. There is no issue of sending more,” he told Greek lawmakers in a parliamentary discussion.

The Greek government has already sent to Ukraine two C-130 transport aircraft loaded with military aid, such as Kalashnikov rifles and portable rocket launchers.

According to the poll conducted by MEGA TV, 66% of Greeks disagree with sending military equipment to Ukraine, and 29% agree with the government’s decision.

Boris: White lines to yellow lines
6th June 2007

Just days after spilling the beans about his youthful cocaine use, south Oxfordshire MP Boris Johnson has told how he used to dodge parking tickets in Oxford.

Mr Johnson, in a new book on cars, reveals how he relied on his old Fiat's Belgian licence plates to avoid paying fines while a student at Oxford University.

In Life in the Fast Lane: The Johnson Guide to Cars, he writes: "A Fiat 128 two-door saloon, 1.2 litres, the Italian Stallion was the trusty steed that emancipated me from the shackles of childhood.

"Before traffic wardens became bonus-hungry maniacs, and when it was still rare for a student to own any kind of car at all, I parked all over the place, my favourite spot in Oxford being the yellow lines by the squash courts in Jowett Walk.

"Sometimes, it is true, I got a ticket. But what did I care? The Stallion had Belgian plates.

"I let them pile in drifts against the windscreen until - in the days before they were even sheathed in plastic - the fines just disintegrated in the rain."

Small brush fire above Katelios earlier today, easily contained - but they all start as small fires.

Resources for guarding against fires

The municipalities of Rhodes, Western Lesvos, Mytilene, Chios, Central Corfu and Oropos in Attica will be among the largest recipients of state aid this year for fire protection as Greece gears up for wildfire season.

The amount that will be received by each of the 326 municipalities that will be supported is calculated based on the fire risk, population and other factors.

However, the total amount that will be allocated (16.9 million euros) is said to be small in relation to the real needs.

Zakynthos is 14th on the list with 125,500 €, article makes no mention of Kefalonia.
