Eight new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, none on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8733 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0979 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1451 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9108 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Pressure on police over partygate pictures of Boris Johnson raising a toast in No 10
Scotland Yard urged to explain why Prime Minister was not fined for attending Downing Street gathering

Scotland Yard is under pressure to explain why the Prime Minister was not fined for attending a partygate gathering in Downing Street, as photographs emerged showing him raising a toast with a group of colleagues.

The pictures were taken at a leaving party for Lee Cain, Boris Johnson's former director of communications, on Nov 13 2020, when the country was in a second lockdown.

In the photographs, the Prime Minister can be seen holding a glass of what appears to be champagne with a group of about seven other people, who are all standing in close proximity to one another.

It is understood that while at least one other attendee at the party received a fixed penalty notice, Mr Johnson never received a questionnaire asking him to explain his presence.

It is understood that some of those who attended the event are angry that the Prime Minister has not been fined.

A source with knowledge of the party said: “I can’t work out the reason why he’s not been fined and other people have.

“The Met’s a shambles. They’ve been told a lot of stuff and they’ve just ignored it.

“It’s so obviously a breach. Whatever way you look at it, it’s a breach. None of us can figure it out.”

Recycling fee on plastic packaging from June 1

An environmental tax, or recycling fee, of 8 cents on products whose packaging contains polyvinyl chloride (PVC) will be imposed from June 1 when the products are sold.

Under a law passed last summer, consumers are required to pay the fee per piece of product.

Monkeypox could become endemic if it makes the jump to pets
Experts believe there is an urgent need to prevent animals from contracting the virus as they could become permanent reservoirs of disease

Monkeypox could become entrenched in Europe forever if the current outbreak jumps to pets, health officials have warned as cases in Britain have tripled to 57.

Health officials insist the risk to the population remains low but experts believe there is an urgent need to ensure animals do not contract the virus as they could become permanent reservoirs of disease.

Partygate: Insiders tell of packed No 10 lockdown parties

Insiders who attended events at Downing Street during lockdown have told the BBC how staff crowded together, sat on each other's laps and how party debris was left out overnight.

For the first time, insiders who were at some of the events have told BBC Panorama in detail what they saw.

They describe arriving for work the morning after a get-together to find bottles lying around parts of the building, bins overflowing with rubbish and empties left on the table.

They also tell of events with dozens of staff crowded together, and parties going so late that, on occasion, some ended up staying in Downing Street all night.

And they say staff mocked others who tried to stop what was going on.

The insiders admit that events were routine. "They were every week," one says. "The event invites for Friday press office drinks were just nailed into the diary."

The invitation was known as "WTF" - meaning "Wine-Time Friday" and a reference to a less polite acronym.

The drinks were often scheduled in No 10 for 4pm. Sources say Friday drinks had been a tradition in Whitehall for some time.

But drinking wasn't limited to Fridays. One former official describes turning up at work in No 10 often to find "A mess! There were bottles, empties, rubbish - in the bin, but overflowing - or indeed sometimes left on the table."
