Greek judge bans investigative TV show
A Greek judge on Thursday banned a leading private TV station from airing an investigative report into a deadly migrant boat accident, claiming it could compromise the secrecy of the ongoing official investigation.
Judge Antigoni Stamoleka warned Mega TV of "severe legal sanctions" if it broadcasts the report — or even continues to screen advertising spots for it — before her investigation is concluded.
Mega TV said the order was an unacceptable act of censorship, and insisted it would complete and air the report as planned during next week's episode of the popular "Protagonists" show.
"It would be a sad state of affairs if journalists had to secure judges' permission to investigate a story," said reporter Stavros Theodorakis, who presents "Protagonists."

Treasure hunters in search of hidden treasure near Amfipolis
A large number of people from Serres and Thessaloniki are digging every day deep pits, hoping to find a lost treasure rumored to be hidden in fields outside the small village of Skopia, municipality of Amfipolis in eastern Macedonia.
The village residents say that the treasure hunters won't find anything, adding that they are not aware of any story regarding a hidden treasure in the region.

Parliament in Belgium has passed a bill allowing euthanasia for terminally ill children without any age limit, by 86 votes to 44, with 12 abstentions.
When, as expected, the bill is signed by the king, Belgium will become the first country in the world to remove any age limit on the practice.
It may be requested by terminally ill children who are in great pain and also have parental consent.
Opponents argue children cannot make such a difficult decision.
It is 12 years since Belgium legalised euthanasia for adults.
In the Netherlands, Belgium's northern neighbour, euthanasia is legal for children over the age of 12, if there is parental consent.

The Bank of Greece issued a brief statement on 11th February warning citizens of the potential risks associated with virtual currencies, such as bitcoin.
In particular, the bank cautioned that investors should be mindful that losses related to changes in the price of virtual currencies are not protected.
Computer scientist and bitcoin enthusiast George Zervos described the current state of the ecosystem to CoinDesk. Zervos went on to suggest that Greece’s ongoing problems with tax evasion have likely stoked fears in its banking community that more wealth could “flow out of the country into bitcoin exchanges [in order to] to avoid tax”.

Thousands of people are evacuating their homes in Indonesia after a volcano erupted in east Java.
Mount Kelud spewed ash and debris over a large area, including the city of Surabaya, about 130km (80 miles) away.
Two people died after their houses collapsed under the weight of ash, officials said. Some towns were said to be covered by 4cm (1.6 in) of ash.

Seems the police had been assigned to duty at the Greek Basketball Cup Final on Crete and had returned in plain clothes when they were attacked by fans of one the clubs who thought they were fans of the other club. The police officers claim coast guard officers stood around and did nothing. Never heard that said of police officers :iroll:

A man in China has been charged with attempted murder after he shoved his girlfriend down a manhole on the street, where she spent the next 60 hours trying to survive.
Footage from December shows the man on his own before the incident, lifting the cover off the hole and placing a piece of cardboard over the top.
Later, he returns to the spot in Haikou City with his girlfriend, and pushes her down the hole.

A Spanish pensioner was found dead in Palma on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca after apparently getting his head stuck in a paper recycling bin.
The 68-year-old man is thought to have accidentally strangled himself as he reached through the narrow slot of the container to retrieve discarded newspapers.

The Eurobarometer results released in Brussels showed that one in four Greeks (26%) do not intend to go on vacation this year because of their economic situation, while in the same category the number on a European level was 11%.
Furthermore, the community polls held from January 6 to 11, show that 54% of people in Greece are planning to go on vacation, but will have to adjust their plans due to financial difficulties.
Only 10% of Greeks stated that their vacation plans will not be affected by the economic crisis.
