Not exactly news but might be of interest, especially if you're thinking of a holiday on Kef - Easter dates for the next few years:

Could spell trouble? Scrabble rule change allows use of 'OK'
Risking the wrath of purists, the board game’s official arbiters have approved use of the two-letter initialism along with thousands of other new words

Hold on to your tiles: the first new Scrabble words in four years are being added to the official list of accepted words, including – heretically for some purists – the two-letter word “OK”.

The OED gives its origin as the mid-19th century, and says it is probably an abbreviation of “orl korrect”, a humorous form of “all correct”, which was popularised as a slogan during President Van Buren’s re-election campaign of 1840 in the US: “his nickname Old Kinderhook (derived from his birthplace) provided the initials.”
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/may/02/scrabble-change-of-mindset-allows-use-of-ok

Or, as Greeks say, OK is derived from Ολα Kαλά  ;)

Some, er, 'interesting' new words(?) now allowed.

BT offers iconic red phone boxes for community adoption for just £1

Phone giants BT are offering up for "adoption" more of their iconic red phone boxes for community use - for just £1.

The Adopt A Kiosk scheme means another 3,683 of the phone boxes across England can be adopted by communities to put them to good use. Hundreds more are up for adoption in Scotland and Wales.

Instantly recognisable, the classic General Post Office phone box, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, has become a symbol of Britain.

Already, more than 5,800 payphones have been adopted by communities since 2008.

As mobile phone use has grown, demand for public telephone boxes has fallen with calls made from BT phone boxes having plunged by around 90% in the past decade.

Wind plan could float with help from Greek Government

Offshore wind’s ability to create employment and regeneration is well proven. Parts of the UK, the world’s leading offshore wind market, have benefited greatly from it, as have depressed regions in other countries. Manufacturing and service jobs have been created and declining infrastructure reinvigorated.

Greece may not seem to have a lot in common with the UK. It does not have any offshore wind, but it does have a maritime infrastructure and considerable technical and academic expertise in things maritime.

Offshore wind has significant potential in Greece, says WindEurope, and all Greek regions stand to benefit, given that a supply chain would need to be put in place to support it.

Like Spain, which does not have any offshore wind either, Greece has ports, yards and fabrication facilities capable of building offshore wind structures and acting as logistics bases for offshore wind projects in its waters. Just as Spanish companies have benefited from the boom in demand for offshore wind, building structures for floating wind, so too could Greek companies.

National Trust scraps horse trials which Royals have ridden in for 40 years to protect worms

The National Trust has scrapped a prestigious horse trials event in which Royals have competed in for 40 years citing concerns for earthworms.

The Belton Horse Trials is looking for a new home after officials said horse hooves treading on worms and other "soil loving creatures" means the ground could become boggy and waterlogged.

Worms play a vital role as aerators of soil, and helping grassland grow.
