Two women have been jailed for 12 months over the death of their elderly neighbour, who was “literally eaten alive” by their starving dog.

Er, they hadn't fed their dogs in 45 hours, one of the starving dogs eats a neighbour... and they're sentenced to 12 months in prison? What am I missing here?
