Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9045 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1096 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1056 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9012 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

‘Panic button’ app to help women facing domestic violence

A digital application for cellphones to support women facing violence at home, called “Panic Button,” was introduced in Athens and Thessaloniki on March 23.

The free app is downloaded on a smartphone and activates the service by pressing on a button which sends a text message (sms) to the operational center of the police. The app contains the needed information to locate the user.

Bear caught with hand in the honey jar in northern Greece

A bear conservation group has released camera footage showing an adult bear raiding a bee farm on Mount Paiko in northern Greece and is advising beekeepers to keep a radio playing near their hives.

Captured by the Kallisto bear conservation group earlier this month as it responded to complaints by local bee farmers in the area of Goumenissa, the footage shows an adult bear destroying up 15-20 hives and eating around 40 kilograms of honey.

The Second Coming – How To Recycle Your Burnt Out Sex Toys

According to UK law, any sex toys that oscillate or vibrate are electrical items. It means all your sex toys will be treated as other electrical waste, such as cameras, toasters, or anything that comes with a charger – so what can we do? Should we just be flinging our orgasm-inducing items straight into our recycling bins?

OK, let’s not scar the bin workers just yet, there’s another option.

Enter the Natural Love Company (NLC) and their new recycling scheme The Second Coming.

Errr... New Rules Could See Every UK Home Have Seven Different Bins

If you forget to take your bin out every week, we’ve got some seriously bad news.

Your bin day timetable could be about to get seriously hectic thanks to some new proposed recycling laws.

The major government reform to waste collection in England could see households required to have as many as seven different waste collection bins each.

In a bid to make recycling rules more consistent across the country, the measures – which are set to be announced next month – would require all councils to collect paper, cardboard, metal, plastic, glass, garden waste and food waste separately.

Local councils are seriously not happy about the plans, calling them ‘unworkable’ and warning the scheme would cost hundreds of millions of pounds.

Greek security forces foil terrorist attack against Jewish Synagogue – Two Pakistanis were arrested

The Greek Police and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) proceeded to dismantle a terrorist network in Athens in coordination with overseas intelligence which was planning strikes against carefully selected targets in Greek territory, including a Jewish synagogue. Based on information collected and processed by the National Intelligence Service, coordinated operations of the EYP and the Anti-Terrorist Service (D.A.E.B.) were carried out in various areas of the territory.

Authorities arrested two Pakistanis, 29 and 27 years old, as accomplices of the terrorist -leader, who was active abroad, as the “mastermind” of the network.

According to what emerged, their aim was not only to harm innocent citizens but also to undermine the sense of security in the country, simultaneously damaging its institutions and threatening its international relations.
