Sami Port Authority and the local fire service called to attend a small fire on the deck of the FREYA while it was in Sami port yesterday morning. The boat moored next to it, the MIAMI MIAMI was also slightly damaged by the fire. Captain of the FREYA suffered minor burns and was taken to hospital in Argostoli, other nine crew all uninjured. No marine pollution observed but both boats confined to port until passed seaworthiness inspection.

Scrapping free prescriptions for over-60s ‘could have devastating impact’
Health groups say move would leave many patients in England unable to afford medication, intensifying existing health inequalities

A Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) consultation on proposals to raise the qualifying age for free NHS prescriptions in England from 60 to 66, in line with the state pension age, will close on Thursday after generating more than 32,000 responses.

Vanity Plates In Greece May Be A Form Of ‘Conspicuous Corruption’

In Greece, drivers cannot legally purchase custom vanity plates. However, a new study confirms an open secret: that the country has an illegal market for acquiring license plates with distinctive number patterns, perhaps as a form of “conspicuous corruption.” Panos Louridas and Diomidis Spinellis of the Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece, report their findings in the open-access journal PLOS ONE.

A 44 y-o Greek rescued from the beach at Afales, Ithaka, yesterday after being trapped by adverse weather conditions. He told rescuers he had arrived on the beach by canoe with his wife and young daughter. They were subsequently found safe on the shore nearby.
