Expansion of rescEU aerial firefighting fleet for wildfire season announced
The expanded rescEU firefighting aircraft reserve will now consist of 24 airplanes and 4 helicopters contributed by 10 member states. The breakdown of contributions is as follows:
Croatia: Two medium scooping airplanes
Cyprus: Two light planes
Czechia: Two helicopters
France: Two medium scooping airplanes and one helicopter
Germany: Two light planes
Greece: Two medium scooping airplanes, two light planes, and one helicopter
Italy: Two medium scooping airplanes and two light planes
Portugal: Two light planes
Spain: Two medium scooping airplanes
Sweden: Four light planes

‘Britain’s future is outside the EU’, Sir Keir pledges
The Labour leader promised he would ‘make Brexit work’ if elected
Sir Keir Starmer has declared “Britain’s future is outside the EU”, confirming Labour will not seek to rejoin the bloc if it wins power.
The Labour leader accepted it is “no great secret” he voted Remain in the 2016 referendum. But Sir Keir said he agreed with Leave supporters who wanted “a better health service, better jobs, better wages, more security, a sense of control over their lives and their communities”.
And, in a pitch aimed at Brexiteers disgruntled with the high tax burden, record-high immigration, the state of the NHS and “out of control” crime, Sir Keir set out plans to “make Brexit work”.
Sir Keir’s promise comes as regret among Leave voters sits at a record high, with more voters than ever believing Brexit has been a “failure”. A recent YouGov poll found just a fifth of Brexiteers think Brexit has been a “success”, while a third who believe the opposite.

Municipality of Sami is to spend a little short of 24,000€ buying 50 beach parasols, 100 sun loungers and 220(?) little tables for the loungers to put their drinks on, all down at Myrtos. There'll also be a 36 metre access corridor down to the sea for the use of people with a disability. All to be ready by 30 June, by which date the canteen should be running and lifeguards in place.
Not sure why the end of June seems to figure so regularly when preparations for the tourist season are being made. It almost seems to be a case of, "never mind those tourists who arrive in April, May and June, we must have everything ready for the when the Athenians arrive."
On the matter of arrivals... some concern on the island that actual arrivals on Kef haven't met expectations as yet this season. Every year must be better than the last? Perhaps depends upon what one regards as "better".

Foreign airlines choose Greece
With tourism arrivals expected to set a new record this summer, foreign airlines are strengthening their presence in the Greek market. These are not last-minute decisions, given that by early 2023 flights to Greece had already exceeded those of 2019.
According to TUI, the highest demand for Greece traditionally comes from Britain and Germany, confirmed by passenger traffic data at the 14 regional airports operated by Fraport. In April, total arrivals and departures from the UK and Germany respectively reached around 500,000.
