Richmond Park visitors caught ‘trying to force antlers off’ deer
Richmond Park visitors have been filmed approaching the deer and trying to force their antlers off, according to police.

Stags in the west London park teeming with tourists and families over the weekend were reportedly approached and set upon by people trying to remove their antlers.

Royal Parks Police force issued a warning on X: “We have received reports of concerning behaviour in Richmond Park over the weekend, where park users have been observed approaching the deer and attempting to remove their antlers.

“Video footage of these incidents has been obtained.”

They added: “The deer cast their antlers each year and grow new ones. However instead of allowing their old antlers to fall off naturally, some people are taking hold of them and trying to force them off, which is distressing for the deer and also a criminal offence.”

Richmond Park is home to herds of wild red and fallow deer roaming freely since 1637.

Stags and bucks have razor sharp antlers, they can weigh upwards of 25 stone, and they also can reach speeds of 30 miles per hour.

Being hit by a stag travelling at full speed is the equivalent of being mown down by a motorbike, according to Royal Parks.

Around 300 red deer and 300 fallow deer are believed to live in the scenic park as authorities warn the 5 million visitors each year to keep away - especially during the birthing season between May and July.

‘It’s plain elitist’: anger at Greek plan for €5,000 private tours of Acropolis

Archaeologists and guides among critics who say scheme goes against what symbol of democracy should represent

The Acropolis is by far Greece’s biggest attraction, drawing more than 22,000 visitors a day last summer, forcing authorities to introduce tough controls, including a time-slot system.

This year, officials have gone a step further, announcing a scheme that allows sightseers to beat the crowds and experience the Periclean masterpiece on an exclusive basis. The initiative foresees up to four groups of five people being guided by expert archaeologists around the site between 7am to 9am and 8pm to 10pm – before opening and after closing times – to avoid the thousands of selfie-snappers who hourly ascend the rocky hill.

Anti-bullying platform receives 41 complaints in less than a week, minister says

An online platform established to address violence and bullying in Greek schools has already received 41 complaints since its launch less than one week ago, Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said on Monday.

Speaking on Antenna TV, Pierrakakis stated that the majority of complaints, totaling 33, have been submitted by parents, with an additional eight complaints lodged by students.

“For the first time since the discussion on school violence began, we have tangible evidence that we can utilize to protect each child,” he said.

The platform, accessible at stop-bullying.gov.gr, was launched on Tuesday.

Greece’s rivers running dry, lakes disappearing
Kathimerini reaches out to experts to find out why Doirani, Vistonida and Pikrolimni and the Gallikos in the country’s north are dwindling

The sole resident of Kerasia, at 600 meters on Mount Papikio in Rodopi, has been observing the changes to the village’s river since the 1980s. “We used to hear the Aspropotamos roar. Now it’s gone quiet. The water level has dropped from a meter to 8-10 centimeters,” retired lawyer Sotiris Poupouzis tells Kathimerini, speaking about one of several rivers that feed Lake Vistonida in neighboring Xanthi.

The Aspropotamos is just one of dozens of water bodies in northern Greece sounding the alarm, victims of reduced rainfall, less snowmelt and higher temperatures.
