Kef fire risk 25/05/23: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8906 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1109 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1161 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9002 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

A remote Thai island but could probably apply to lots of other tourist resorts.

Tory pledge to build 40 ‘new’ England hospitals likely to be delayed until after 2030
Exclusive: Delay to key pledge of last Conservative manifesto likely to anger MPs who wanted action before next election

The pledge to build and fund “40 new hospitals over the next 10 years” was one of the major headlines of Boris Johnson’s pitch to the electorate in 2019.

Instead, Barclay is expected to commit to prioritising five hospitals where roofs and ceilings are most at risk of sudden collapse because they are made from reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC).

The cheaper, lightweight form of concrete was used in the building of many schools and hospitals in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s but is now well past its intended 30-year lifespan.

The risk is so acute that some hospitals have deployed steel stilts to stop ceilings and roofs from falling down. The Queen Elizabeth hospital in King’s Lynn in Norfolk – which is widely used by constituents of the former prime minister Liz Truss – has deployed about 1,500 such supports, for example.

Ministers accused of betrayal after animal welfare bill scrapped

A bill aimed at banning live animal exports and introducing powers to tackle puppy smuggling has been dropped by the government over fears it would be forced into a vote on hunting.

Environment Minister Mark Spencer said measures in the Kept Animal Bill would now be delivered in different ways.

He told MPs he had to scrap the bill because Labour were going "to play political games".

However, one animal charity has accused ministers of "an astonishing betrayal".
