Kef fire risk 28/05/23: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8940 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1057 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1186 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9044 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Two Greek nationals charged after 120kg of cocaine found in Sydney shipping container

Two Greek nationals have been charged after police seized 120 kilograms of cocaine allegedly stashed within the walls of a shipping container at Port Botany in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Police will allege the two men travelled from Athens to retrieve the drugs – which would have been worth an estimated $60 million on the streets – for an organised crime syndicate in Australia.

Detective Acting Superintendent Matthew Kennedy said on Sunday the two men were believed to have been in Australia for a “very, very” short time and did not speak English.

Cheap summer holidays at risk from engineer shortfall
Shortage could see passenger jets going out of service for months at a time

Cheap summer holidays are facing a new threat as the aviation industry grapples with a critical shortage of engineers.

Companies are increasingly concerned that passenger jets are at risk of going out of service for months at a time because of the shortfall, with Boeing and Airbus estimating that more than 600,000 engineers need to be hired over the next 20 years to keep up with demand.

If this leads to a restriction in the number of planes – and passenger seats – it risks driving up ticket prices.

BMW owner’s horror as £100,000 car washes out to sea with passengers inside
The BMW was floating in the sea with passengers still inside

A driver had a Bank holiday nightmare after their expensive BMW was washed out to sea in Cornwall.

The black car, estimated to be worth around £100,000, somehow ended up off dry land and floating in the water.

The St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team were called to Trevaunance Beach, in St Agnes, at 8.30am on Sunday.

The local team checked that the occupants were out of the vehicle and safe and then started the recovery process.

It is not clear how the car became submerged in the water. No injuries were reported.
