Big jump in the number of coronavirus cases on Kef with seven new cases recorded yesterday by EODY.

Kef fire risk 24/10/21: Low

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1518
1 USD = € 0.8343

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Mount Etna’s violent eruption forces airlines to cancel half-term flights to Greece as ash clouds are spewed into air

It's understood that two flights were cancelled while flights with Aegean Airlines suffered minor delays, according to the MailOnline.

Graphs from the French meteorological service predict the ash cloud will move straight over Greece, where it will cause even more disruption.

Giant owl not seen for 150 years pictured in wild for first time

A giant owl that has gone almost unseen in African rainforests for 150 years has been photographed in the wild for the first time by British scientists working in Ghana.

Shelley’s Eagle Owl was spotted on 16 October in what has been hailed as a “sensational discovery” by ecologists.

With only a few thousand thought to be in existence, the species is officially classified as being at risk of extinction.

Ivory poaching triggers evolution of tuskless elephants

Decades of heavy poaching led to the evolution of tuskless elephants in a part of Africa , scientists have found.

Tusklessness became more common in the female elephants of Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park after rampant ivory poaching during the country's 15-year civil war.

A small proportion of females have always been born without tusks but experts in Gorongosa began to notice the condition more after the end of the war in 1992, when 90 per cent of the park's elephant population had been wiped out.

Two kittens and cat killed in arson attack at flat in Fife

Two kittens and a cat have died following a deliberate fire at a flat in Fife.

The incident happened at a block of flats on Keir Hardie Street in Methil at around 4.15am on Saturday.

A 36-year-old woman left the flat at around 8pm on Friday, and police said it is believed that no one had been at home since then.

Two kittens and a cat which were in the flat died as a result of the fire. No one else was injured in the block of flats.

Police are treating the blaze as “wilful” and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Covid: Travellers now able to use cheaper Covid tests

New rules allowing travellers returning to England to take lateral flow tests instead of more expensive PCR tests have come into force.

Fully-vaccinated people arriving from a non-red list country can now use a lateral flow test on, or before, day two of their return.
