Sixty new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, two on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1585
1 USD = € 0.8589

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Bear freed by villagers after falling 10ft into empty water tank

A "furious" bear was freed by villagers after falling into a 10ft deep water tank.

Residents in the Shopian district of Kashmir, India, discovered the animal on 22 January, after it had fallen in overnight.

Locals suspect it could have accidentally tumbled into the water tank while coming down from a nearby hill to search for food.

Weighing in at 170kg, the bear had to be tranquilised before wildlife protection officials managed to drag it out in a net, before transporting it to a wildlife park where it will be released back into the wild.

Man who took uncle into Carlow post office to collect his pension 'didn't know he was dead'

A man who brought his dead uncle into a post office to collect his pension has insisted: “I wasn’t trying to rob him. I’m not an eejit.”

Declan Haughney insisted that he didn’t realise Peadar Doyle, 66, was dead.

Hm, now where have I heard that sort of excuse before... ?

A car has been found in deep water in Poros port, too murky for divers to see into the car so no knowledge of how many, if any, occupants perished. Attempts being made to winch the vehicle out by crane.

Cake and singing on PM’s birthday was not a party, says Grant Shapps

Boris Johnson’s gathering with birthday cake in the cabinet room was not a party, the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, has said, denying the prime minister had organised the event.

‘I don’t seek to defend it’: Grant Shapps admits Boris Johnson’s lockdown birthday party was wrong

No 10 has defended the party, saying: “A group of staff working in No. 10 that day gathered briefly in the Cabinet Room after a meeting to wish the prime minister a happy birthday. He was there for less than ten minutes.”

But the Covid regulations expert and QC Adam Wagner warned: “It’s an indoor social gathering – it lasted 30 mins and the PM apparently stayed for 10.

“Pre-arranged in a particular room and food was bought. It’s obviously not within the rules and nobody from the government at the time would have said for a moment it was.”

Sue Gray to report on No 10 parties while Met investigates
Civil servant plans to publish findings on alleged rule-breaking this week

Sue Gray, the civil servant investigating lockdown parties in Downing Street, still intends to publish her report this week despite a police inquiry into potential criminality, The Times understands.

Whitehall sources said that Gray had cleared publication with the Metropolitan Police and plans to hand it to Boris Johnson this week. They added that while the final decision on whether to publish would be in the hands of the prime minister they expected that it would be released in full.
