Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8885 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0835 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1255 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9229 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Apparently the lights on Argostoli Christmas tree were switched on yesterday but the stuff planned to go with it will take place at a later date.

The Skala switch on went pretty much as planned.

Online pig welfare training platform launching March 2022
A new Red Tractor standard means that anyone involved with care of pigs needs to have completed pig welfare training via this platform within three months of the 1 March launch date. However, in recognition of the acute difficulties faced by producers at this time, the Red Tractor Pigs Board has agreed to extend this to six months, meaning training now needs to be completed by 31 August.

Lockerbie bombing suspect in US custody

A Libyan man accused of making the bomb which destroyed Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie 34 years ago is in United States custody, Scottish authorities have said.

The US announced charges against Abu Agila Masud two years ago, alleging that he played a key role in the bombing on 21 December, 1988.

Last month it was reported that Masud had been kidnapped by a militia group in Libya, leading to speculation that he was going to be handed over to the American authorities to stand trial.

Four children fall into icy lake near Birmingham

The four children were pulled from the lake in cardiac arrest, said Cameron McVittie, a tactical commander with the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

He said they received immediate treatment on site, before being taken under blue lights to hospital with an advanced care team.

"Two were taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital and two to Heartlands in Birmingham," Mr McVittie said.

He added: "There are no updates. They were all in critical condition when they arrived in hospital."

Edit: Two children unaccounted for, according to the Telegraph

Went to secondary school 2 streets away from there, only had a few chippies and Wimpey bars around
back then.
Weirdly, I moved to an area in North London where it abounds with Greek restaurants and takeaways, though no all are
really Greek. Latest group of eateries have been Greek patisseries/cafes, seen at least 3 open this year.

Shame about the Keo.
Though it's a good way to know what flavour Cypriot establishment you're in.
Keo for the Greek side, Efes for the Turks

'Garudian' was a typo but after reading that fairly typical flowery, arty Guardian review that didn't really tell us much I couldn't be bothered to correct my spelling.

Not (m)any Greek / Greek Cypriot restaurants around in NW London when I was a kid but one of the kids in my class was the son of a G-C restaurateur in the West End.

At one time I believe most Greek tavernas in the UK were Cypriot Greek, which is possibly why holidaymakers to Greece can get a bit of a surprise when the meze they're served isn't what they expected. Things have changed a bit, possibly due to EU membership (as was). Of course, Cyprus was almost officially a Greek island, only self-interested politics of others stopped that. Ties are still strong.
