Disney Developing Film Based On True Life Story Of Giannis Antetokounmpo And His Family

The Walt Disney Studios is in development on Greek Freak, a live action film for Disney+ inspired by the true life story of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the NBA’s biggest stars who just won second MVP in a row and his brother Kostas just won an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. The incredible true story follows the Antetokounmpo family who through faith, determination, and their unbreakable bond, would unite to lift themselves out of a life of poverty as undocumented immigrants living in Greece.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Agrees To Richest Contract In NBA History

Giannis Antetokounmpo confirmed on Twitter Tuesday he has agreed to sign a five-year supermax extension worth $228.2 million with the Milwaukee Bucks, which is the richest contract in the history of the National Basketball Association.

Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece, to Nigerian immigrants. His mother earned money baby-sitting, and his father worked for an electrical company. But the work was "rarely steady," and the family was once evicted for failing to pay their $455 monthly rent. Giannis and his older brother, Thanasis, would help feed themselves and their family by selling watches, bags and sunglasses on the city's streets. "Sometimes, our fridge was empty," Antetokounmpo told the New York Times in June of 2013. "Some days, we didn't sell the stuff, and we didn't have money to feed ourselves." He started playing basketball at the age of 12 in 2007. Giannis and Thanasis shared the one pair of sneakers that his family owned.
