Fifteen new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, none on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8727 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0841 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1459 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9224 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Watch the maiden voyage of Greece’s fastest train “White Arrow” – Impressive drone footage

The long-awaited White Arrow, the fastest train in the country, made its maiden voyage from Athens to Thessaloniki, with the passengers left impressed by the speed and amenities it offers. The trains can reach speeds of 200 kilometers per hour.

When a series of projects on the rails are completed in the coming months, the duration will drop to 3 hours and 25 minutes.

5 Astonishing Moments As Nadine Dorries Is Quizzed About Channel 4 And Netflix
Must-watch TV.

An appearance by culture secretary Nadine Dorries at a select committee hearing is becoming must-watch TV.

In November, the gaffe-prone Tory minister didn’t fully grasp how Channel 4 was funded – an important detail since she is in charge of selling-off the broadcaster.

And on Thursday, Dorries left viewers stunned as she responded to questions from the digital, culture, media and sport committee of MPs about online safety and public service broadcasters.

‘I think the figure was about 96%’

Dorries was asked by the SNP’s John Nicolson about her Channel 4 privatisation consultation, and how many people supported the move

“I think the figure was about 96%,” she replied, fairly confidently.

But Nicolson corrected her afterwards, saying “the answer, of course, is 96% opposed privatisation”.

Puppies 'found dead in freezer' as RSPCA investigates £850k dog-selling fraud in Essex

Puppies were "found dead in a freezer" during an investigation into an £850,000 dog-selling fraud, a court was told.

RSPCA investigators who searched two addresses linked to the gang found other young dogs infected with viruses, and discovered animals advertised as "home bred" had been bought in with doctored vaccination details.

Their inquiries revealed that the unlicensed gang in Essex had advertised more than 500 high-value puppies for sale during a 16-month period, with many buyers reporting that the animals died a short time after purchase from infections.

At Basildon Crown Court, four members of the gang pleaded guilty to offences related to the fraudulent sale of puppies, and will be sentenced later this summer.

Omicron BA.5 identified

A more contagious form of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has been identified in Greece, according to the National Public Health Organization (EODY).

The BA.5 Omicron variant was detected in a sample from the region of Epirus in northwestern Greece.

Omicron 5 has a higher transmissibility than Omicron 2 but does not appear to cause more severe illness.

After String of Adventures, Ancient Gold Ring Back in Greece

A more than 3,000-year-old gold signet ring that was stolen from an Aegean island in World War II, crossed the Atlantic, was bought by a Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian scientist and ended up in a Swedish museum has found its way back to Greece.

It was the latest in a series of coups by Greek authorities seeking the return of works plundered from the antiquities-rich country — even though an initial effort by the Swedish museum to return the ring apparently fell between the cracks of 1970s bureaucracy.

Relevant government officers and contractors have signed an agreement regarding "Environmental Upgrading and Expansion of the Landfill – Integrated Waste Management Facility" for Kefalonia. Result should be uo-to-date integrated waste treatment, recycling, and solid waste management.
