Eleven new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, one on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8727 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0841 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1459 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9224 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

How to avoid missing your flight because of airport queues and your rights if you do

A critical staff shortage across the travel industry and increased demand are causing hours-long queues at airports that have led to passengers missing flights despite arriving in plenty of time.

Airline passengers have faced queues so long they are snaking out of the terminal building at several UK airports in recent weeks, including Birmingham, Heathrow and Manchester. Passengers have been left in tears after missing holidays because of the delays at the airport.

I flew from Manchester yesterday 06.30 flight.  Was through check in and security within an hour.  Here in Kefalonia, it took one and a half hours from stepping off the plane to exiting the airport doors.

Seems remarkably quick for Manchester and unusually slow for Kef  - any idea what the hold-up was all about?

Irini Mourelatou: The Niece Of Agios Paisios Passed Away

Irini Mourelatou of the Eznepidis family, niece of Agios Paisios as she is the daughter of his sister Zoe, died at the age of 77 in the Kephalonia village of Lixouri.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 4 pm local time at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Chavdata, Lixouri.

She was especially beloved in the area and, as the locals pointed out, was a source of testimony for the Eznepidis family who came from Farasa in Cappadocia in today’s Turkey, but especially for her uncle, Agios (Saint) Paisios, who after his canonisation, is now honoured on July 12.

Where Is Indiana Jones 5?

There are some iconic franchises that transcend the borders of time and the common factor seems to be Harrison Ford. The iconic actor has come back to star in the sequels for many of his career-making movies – Star Wars, Blade Runner 2049 – and now he’ll do it once more as Indiana Jones (again).

After a successful trilogy of films in the 80s, Ford returned for a fourth film Indiana Jones film in 2008, which really did nothing for the franchise. However, another attempt to revitalise the action-adventure films is underway, so what do we know about Indiana Jones 5?

Filming has officially wrapped on the fifth Indiana Jones film. Right now, Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023

Oh my, forty years after Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)! I hope it's better than 2008's Indiana Jones 4, .... Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Pensioners set to lose £13,000 in retirement thanks to inflation

Pensioners are set to lose £13,000 over the course of their retirement because of inflation, new analysis has revealed, as pressure grows on Rishi Sunak to bring back the triple lock early.

More than 12 million elderly people have suffered a £551 real-terms cut over the past year after the Government abandoned its pledge to match payouts to rising prices.

Someone who turns 66 this year faces being £13,209 out of pocket by age 85 as a result of the lower payments.

Italy Returns Parthenon Marble Fragment to Greece, Precedent Seen

The so-called Fagan Fragment, a piece of the Parthenon Marbles that the Antonio Salinas Museum in Palermo, Italy returned to Greece in January will be kept by Greece the Acropolis Museum as a permanent fixture.

Greece hopes that it could create a movement to get back the stolen Parthenon Marbles that are housed in the British Museum, which acquired them 200 years earlier from a Scottish diplomat, Lord Elgin.

Maybe some remotely attractive ones this year rather than the overweight ugly ones who only get their cycles out for this event.

The first suspicious case detected in Greece.Tourists have been moved to Athens

The first suspected monkeypox case was detected in Greece. Affected was a 29-year-old foreigner who was on vacation on the island of Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea with his partner.

According to media reports on Saturday night, British men have skin rashes and other symptoms that are reminiscent of monkeypox.

Health officials on Kefalonia, who investigated and evaluated the case, described it as a “monkeypox suspect.”

The man will be transferred from Kefalonia to the Aticon Hospital in West Athens tonight and will arrive in the Greek capital on Saturday midnight.

Although his partner is asymptomatic, she is considered a “contact” with the suspect. She will also be transferred to the Greek capital by the same ambulance C-130.

Atticon Hospital will determine if British tourists are actually infected with the monkeypox virus.

Not a source I normally use but a quick check suggests the article is accurate

Said to be a 29-year-old British Romanian national working in the UK, transferred in a negative pressure capsule from Kefalonia on Saturday night (21/5) in a C-130 aircraft.

Samples taken for analysis, results expected on Monday.

Not 100% sure, but it was something to do with an aircraft that landed before us.  We circled the airport for about half an hour.  It slows things down with the airport police having to stamp passports now (post Brexit).

Bristol recently was a dream. No queue for security and sailed through. However the plane was full and at Kefalonia everyone had to wait for passport checks. If you are last off the plane you have a long wait. They do fast track any families with young children, dissability or pregnancy.
