Russia has presented France with a puppy as a symbolic replacement for a police dog killed in the aftermath of the Paris attacks last month.

The death of the dog, called Diesel, during a police raid in Saint-Denis, sparked international sympathy.

The German shepherd puppy was named Dobrynya after a knight from Russian folklore.

He was handed to the French ambassador in Moscow, who called it an extraordinary gift.

The Finance Ministry appears determined to implement its plan for the imposition of additional taxes on gasoline, diesel and gas next year, thinking that this will increase state revenues. The ministry’s plans also include a change in the way road tax is calculated, to take into account the commercial value and the engine size of each vehicle.

My best mate when I was a kid was my dog called Boots. When I was told to hit the dancers he was all ways up there in front of me. Slepet on the bottom of my bed for years . Never loved a flock hound more than  I loved him. All kids should have a friend like that to look after and cherish. Anyone else has a fave pet you remember ?

Nothing quite like being pinned down in one position all night by the cats. Thought about kipping on the floor so there's room on the bed for the dog.

Up to now, if a car owner handed over his license plates, he could get them back by paying road tax for the remaining months in the year.

This is a new one on me.  My car is off the road for 6 months of the year and I have always been told by the tax office here that I have to pay the full 12 months road tax.

Is this another rule specifically to to this island?

I get the impression staff training and communications are pretty negligible out here, to the extent no-one really knows WTFs going on, even in small organisations such as  :schtum:

There's been proposals about car tax for less than 12 months but, so far as I know, it's still twelve months or nowt. Didn't see any option when I renewed my car tax.

Re Sleeping with Pets.
When I was growing up we had a very large male Boxer Dog who loved sleeping with me on my single bed. Trouble was he was such a big lump that when he rolled over he'd really squash me.....so I used to get out of bed, go round the other side & slide in again!

That's what I do - a dog and at least 5-6 cats. Who gets the sleep, it certainly isn't me, that's for sure!!
