Three new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1534
1 USD = € 0.8558

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Human Rights Watch Wants Greece to Withdraw Fake News Law

Joining critics who said a new law aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation about the COVID-19 could be used against journalists, Human Rights Watch said Greece’s New Democracy government should revoke it.

“In Greece, you now risk jail for speaking out on important issues of public interest, if the government claims it’s false,” said Eva Cossé, Greece researcher at Human Rights Watch. “The criminal sanctions risk making journalists and virtually anyone else afraid to report on or to debate important issues such as the handling of Covid-19 or migration or government economic policy.”

Number of corpses found rotting at home skyrockets during pandemic

The number of people who were left to die at home and not found for “weeks” saw a huge spike during the Covid-19 pandemic, the first study of its kind has shown.

Research examining post-mortems found cases of markedly decomposed bodies increased by 70 per cent between the year before and after the UK went into lockdown on March 23, 2020.

Gov’t launches digital signature service for all personal documents

The new service, available at docs.gov.gr, facilitates the digital signing of personal documents as well as contracts requiring signing by more than one person.

Access to the service requires users to authenticate themselves using their Taxisnet or bank account login details. Upon entering their credentials, they will receive a confirmation code or push notification on their mobile phone.

The citizen then posts a pdf version of the document that they wish to digitally sign. The process is completed as soon as they enter the one-time password (OTP) sent to their mobile number. The digitally signed document is then automatically saved in the citizen’s my.gov.gr account, from where it can be printed or sent to a public body.

The website is also expected to become available in English in due course.
