Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9052 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1191 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1047 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8936 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Woodburning stoves face tougher restrictions
New stoves will have stricter limits on how much smoke they can emit every hour

Under rules to be brought in within five years, new wood-burning stoves in dozens of smoke control areas will only be allowed to emit 3g of smoke per hour, compared to 5g under current regulations.

Councils in England can impose fines of up to £300 on households if their chimneys emit too much smoke, and up to £1,000 for burning wood in an open fire. Criminal prosecutions can be pursued for serious repeat offenders.

Royal Navy orders investigation into nuclear submarine ‘repaired with glue’

The Royal Navy has ordered an urgent investigation amid claims that workers on a Trident nuclear armed submarine fixed broken bolts in the vessel’s reactor chamber using glue.

The bolt heads originally came off due to over-tightening. But, rather than replacing the damaged shafts, staff at the defence contractor Babcock implemented a quick fix and glued them back on.

Strays won’t be turned out of shelters, official vows

An Interior Ministry official on Monday sought to assuage fears that the recent introduction of stricter guidelines for the licensing and operation of stray cat and dog shelters will lead to the closure of dozens of nongovernmental facilities across the country.

“We won’t be opening the doors of facilities hosting animals and turning them out into the streets. Animals will not be relocated. And shelters that are found to be unsuitable will only be prevented from taking in new animals,” the ministry’s special secretary for the protection of companion animals, Marianthi Dimopoulou, told Kathimerini.

Fewer than half of the country’s 332 municipal authorities have applied for funding from the latest package of nearly €8.2 million for stray shelters. Such reluctance to tackle a problem that in many parts of the country is out of control means the onus has fallen mostly on the shoulders of volunteer groups working on shoestring budgets.

Greece Slashed Road Fatalities By More Than 50% In 2020

Greece might have a rightful reputation as being a difficult, and often dangerous place to drive. However, the Mediterranean country was the only EU member to reduce road fatalities by more than 50% in 2020 compared to 2010.

The improvement to the country's road network, the increase in road safety, the driver assistance systems in modern cars and a better driving culture led to a decrease in the number of fatal traffic accidents.

How Netflix is clamping down on password sharing and the new rules coming to the UK

Netflix has begun it's highly anticipated global crackdown on subscribers sharing passwords with those outside of their household - giving users in the UK a glimpse of what is to come.

The streaming giant has already started to implement stricter rules for users in a scheme being trialled in South and Central America and it is expected these rules will come into force in other countries around the world later this year.
