A 64 y-o local male was injured earlier today when he lost his balance and slipped on rocks at Emplysi beach, close to Fiskardo. A private doctor administered first aid and an ambulance transported the injured man to Argostoli hospital for treatment.

Government delays put Greece’s screening programmes to the test

A recent study found that only around 40% of Greek adults have participated in any type of health screening in the past five years, well below the 58% EU average.

In the last two years, the participation rate for breast cancer screening stood at 36% (EU average 60%), and for colorectal cancer at 10% compared to the 48% EU average.

Participation for cervical cancer was at 40% in the last three years while at the EU level, it was 63%.

The Municipality of Argostoli said to have received funding from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food to surface two rural roads subject to storm damage. One is a 2,800 metre stretch of rural road in the Kampos - Heimoniko area of Skala, the other 1,300 metres of rural road in the BIPE - Thermokipia Krania area of Argostoli. Both to be 4.5 metres wide.

Major olive oil heist in Halkidiki as prices surge

Approximately 37 tons of olive oil were stolen from an agricultural cooperative in Polygyros, located in Halkidiki, northern Greece, as the liquid soars in price.

The stolen olive oil is valued at over 370,000 euros.

Police have launched an investigation into the theft.
