The chief of the Greek Ecologists party, Dimosthenis Vergis, has been sentenced to 37 years and six months in prison after an Athens appeals court found him guilty of trespassing on state property and falsifying official documents to claim ownership of 452,000 square meters of land near Lake Marathon, northeast of the capital.

Vergis had claimed ownership of the property by presenting falsified certificates that allowed him to build on it.

Quayside in Argostoli looks (to me) to be deteriorating after the 'quakes earlier this year, especially where the yachts tie up. Sags and rises in places like a gentle wave.

A gap of 2 billion euros is opening before the government’s very eyes as the country’s social security funds will require additional financing if they are to continue to pay out pensions without any problems until the end of the year.
