Father accused of raping mentally disabled daughter for 18 years
A 52-year-old man has been apprehended in a village near Kavala in northern Greece, accused of sexually assaulting his intellectually disabled daughter over a period of 18 years.
After receiving multiple complaints, the police conducted an investigation at the suspect’s residence, ultimately leading to his arrest.
Police sources indicate that he also subjected two other daughters, aged 20 and 23, to sexual abuse.

Smartphone facial recognition technology can be unlocked by using a printed photograph, a consumer watchdog has found.
The consumer group Which? warned that the flaw in “face unlock systems” on many brands of phones could be exploited by criminals to unlock the screen and steal personal information.
It tested 48 new smartphones in lab conditions, of which 19 could be spoofed with a photo to get through the lock screen and gain access to the phone.
It found some of the photos – of the user whose real-life image was registered with the device – unlocked the phones even though they were not high resolution and were printed on a standard office printer on normal, rather than photographic, paper.
The majority of the phones that failed the tests were at the cheaper to mid-range end of the market, such as the Motorola Moto E13, which retails for £89.99.
All the Apple phones Which? tested passed the spoofing tests.
Lisa Barber, Which?’s tech editor, said: “We would strongly advise anyone using these phones to turn off face recognition and use the fingerprint sensor, a strong password or long PIN instead."

Buzz of excitement over UK’s first bee therapy retreat

Lying on a bed directly above a giant beehive might not sound the most obvious way to unwind after a hard day, but “the UK’s first bee therapy retreat” is offering guests a massage from the insects’ “micro-vibrations”.
A specially-designed triangular, wooden structure, known as an apipod, has been erected in a glade in the grounds of Monachyle Mhor Hotel in Crieff, Perthshire.
Guests can relax or fall asleep on two sheepskin-covered beds inside the apipod, situated directly above six beehives housing 60,000 honey bees.
The bees have their own entrance.

Soldiers to be trained to check passports amid UK fears of summer travel chaos
Hundreds of soldiers and sailors are to be trained from Monday to cover striking Border Force guards, as ministers prepare for a potential summer of chaos at ports and airports, the Guardian can reveal.
In a move that unions say will diminish security at points of entry to the UK, members of the armed forces will be given five days’ training before checking passports at Heathrow, Gatwick and Dover.
Once deployed, the temporary staff in uniform will not have the powers to detain suspected drug dealers, terrorists or victims of trafficking, and will instead have to ask a fully trained Border Force staff member to do that.

Orphaned Bear Saved and Released in the Mountains of Greece
An orphaned bear named Thomas, who was found wandering alone in the area of Florina, northern Greece last year, returned to the wild after being cared for in the facilities of Arcturos wildlife organization.
The bear was about three months old when it was rescued after being noticed wandering alone by the residents of the village of Polypotamos, Florina. He was “baptized” Thomas because he was found on Saint Thomas Day.
Greece is currently home to an estimated population of 450 brown bears. The majority of these bears live in the mountainous regions of northern Greece, including the Pindos and Rhodope Mountains.

Nesting swan 'brutally' killed while guarding eggs in Colburn, North Yorkshire
Police are appealing for information after the "brutal" killing of a nesting swan.
The adult male died following an attack in Colburn village, North Yorkshire.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "[The swan] was brutally killed whilst guarding its nest at Colburn Lakes, behind Brompton on Swale Caravan Park.
Two eggs were taken in the incident, which happened between 2.30pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday, 16 May.
Killing wild birds and taking their eggs are both criminal offences.
