Illegal beach sprawl plagues Rhodes
The much-discussed issue of unlawful constructions on Greece’s beaches is, unfortunately, not limited to Mykonos and the Cyclades, but plagues other important island destinations as well, most notably Rhodes in the southeastern Aegean.

Remains of Irishman were accidentally left on plane at Dublin Airport and sent back to Greece
The remains of an Irish citizen who died abroad were accidentally left on a plane at Dublin Airport and flown back to Greece, causing distress for his family and sparking an internal investigation at the airport.
Ground services neglected to remove the man’s coffin from a flight from Greece on May 22, the Sunday Independent understands.
His family were waiting with a hearse at the airport, but a “misload” resulted in the coffin not being spotted and removed as planned, and it went back on the plane to Greece.

On the subject... Kef's seen the air ambulance twice today, first taking a 95 y-o Ithaki local suffering from a potentially life threatening bulging blood vessel from Argostoli hospital via Kef airport to Rio and later transferring a 55 y-o local with heart problems from Kef to Rio.

More than 30 million tourists with money to burn and free from COVID-19 restrictions are expected in Greece in 2023 in a push for all-out development but most Greeks will be sitting at home watching them.
Tourists will outnumber residents 3-1 over the course of the year and they’re flocking mostly to same overdeveloped, overcrowded spots where unlawful construction of resorts, beach bars and tavernas has taken over public beaches.
No government has been able to stop it, despite recent images of some demolitions on the island of Mykonos known for gouging visitors, and where a souvlaki that costs about. 2.30 euros ($2.79) in Athens can cost five times that much.
Half of Greeks said they can’t afford to vacation in their own country, said a survey by the Research Institute of Retail Consumer Goods (IELKA) on the new consumption habits of households in Greece, blaming inflation.
A near 6 percent growth in the economy in 2022- largely spurred by the return of tourists and international air traffic – hasn’t reflected in wage increases beyond the minimum being hiked, further limiting spending power.

Similar to here then. The cost of holidaying in the UK can cost a great deal more than a package holiday abroad, train travel
alone is more than a flight to sunnier climes.
