Mobile Phones Banned in Greek Schools

In response to the escalating issue of digital-school bullying, the Ministry of Education has announced a crackdown on mobile phone use within Greece's schools, with penalties including potential permanent expulsion for offenders.

The prevalence of mobile phones among students has become a significant distraction in classrooms, exacerbating problems related to bullying and misconduct. Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis emphasised the need for decisive action, stating, "We will have to look at the context of the consequences."

Students caught posting videos on social media that expose or mock fellow students during school hours now face severe consequences, including permanent expulsion from school. Pierrakakis stressed that such measures aim to create safer school environments.

Guernsey charity at 'loggerheads' with post-Brexit paperwork needed to get turtle home

An animal charity in Guernsey is facing challenges trying to return an endangered turtle to its native home of Gran Canaria.

The loggerhead turtle, which been named Barnacle Bill by staff at the GSPCA, washed up on the island's west coast in November following bad weather.

As the animal is on the endangered list, it needs export and import paperwork before it can be moved.

Two of the three documents have been signed by officials in Guernsey but the charity is still waiting for the Spanish government to provide import forms.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne says there are different processes in place now: "Because we're now outside the EU [European Union], whereas we weren't before when we moved turtles, we may have to go via Madrid or another city in Europe for quarantine purposes.

"We may have to do extra tests on Barnacle Bill and future turtles, which we haven't previously had to do."

Going Geek info / Google AI pushes malware

Google's new AI search results promotes sites pushing malware, scams

Google's new AI-powered 'Search Generative Experience' algorithms recommend scam sites that redirect visitors to unwanted Chrome extensions, fake iPhone giveaways, browser spam subscriptions, and tech support scams.

What makes this trickier is how Google's AI answers search queries in a conversational tone, pushing websites to visit for more information. Since SGE links to websites within the answers, this can make the malicious sites seem more believable and trustworthy.

It is unclear how these low-quality sites are making it into Google's AI-powered search algorithms.

However, as AI becomes a more significant part of how we search online, it is becoming increasingly clear that we cannot automatically trust the information these algorithms produce and must verify sites before visiting them.

As most of the scam sites promoted by SGE lead to unwanted browser notification spam, learning how to unsubscribe from them is essential.

To unsubscribe to browser notifications from a site, you can open the notifications settings page in your browser to see a list of sites that you are subscribed to.

For Google Chrome, you can do this by following these steps:

Open Chrome > Settings > Content > Notifications.
Under "Allowed to send notifications", you will see a list of sites that you have subscribed to browser notifications. For each one, click on the the three dots next to the URL and select Remove to revoke the subscription.

Once done, you will no longer receive browser notification spam from these sites.

Or: don't use Google.
