In 1967 it was extraordinary that the Beatles were in Greece at all. Three months earlier a group of colonels had seized power . One of the regime’s first acts was to ban the miniskirt – and anything else that to the rightwing junior army officers smacked of decadence and immorality. Top of the list were hippies, who were seen as “drug addicts, sex maniacs and thieves”.

Video shows Volos mayor hitting citizen

Video footage has emerged showing the mayor of Volos, Achilleas Beos, hitting a citizen who had insulted him.

The incident is believed to have occurred on Saturday morning in the Alli Meria district of the city, which has been heavily affected by this month’s floods.

The citizen can be heard shouting “may my hand that voted for you be cut off” before the mayor turned around and struck him on the head.

Patras: The city's Roman Stadium was restored

The Roman Stadium of Patras was handed over, now restored, to the city. This is an important project implemented by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia during 2020-2023, with a budget of €335,000.00.

The stadium's construction is attributed to the offer of the emperor Domitian. It is related to celebrating the centenary of Patras as a Roman colony in 86 AD. Artistic and athletic competitions, the Caesarea, and gladiatorial competitors took place in the stadium.

Two injured after Flying Scotsman crash at Highland station

Two people have been treated in hospital after a collision involving the Flying Scotsman locomotive and the Royal Scotsman at a station in the Highlands.

The incident happened at low speed at about 18:15 on Friday at Aviemore Station.
